Hilton Times Square (Midtown West)

(Had to get this photo off the internet...it's funny, the area is so jammed and distracting that I could not find the Hilton on 42nd Street and got this picture of its rear entrance instead

Quite a difference, huh?

Anyway, off to Yelpland

This hotel gets very good reviews ( a few sour apples of course)

As a traveller from Texas, I was glad that I took the plunge and stayed here!  The Hilton on Times Square is in the middle of it ALL!  Going to your tourist destinations from 42nd street has it's advantages.  Within 150 yards are three subway stations, if you are ready to travel like a New Yorker, take the subway.  Get yourself a metro card and you're set.  Coming back, you'll have to dodge the mass of humanity on the streets.  But, thanks to the convenient location of the hotel, you can make your retreat swiftly to your room.  Felt secure while going out and to the hotel entrance.  The entrance leads you through a hallway where the Bell hop and staff keeps a close eye on who enters and exits.  Then, customers will take an elevator up to the lobby which serves as another good gateway to keep out unwanted guests.

The rooms were very spacious by New York standards.  The beds were comfy and the bathroom was sufficient.  One nice feature was noise control.  My family and I were able to sleep without any disturbances from the streets below.  There were a few sirens though that you could hear in the faint background, but I could adjust.  If noise is a factor, bring ear plugs.

Never had meals in the hotel.  I came to NY for the food, so I explored out!

Was expensive, but coming to NY for the experience, staying at the Hilton Times Square helped to keep things fun.  I'll definitely be coming back!

Great service at this hotel! After running out of my requested room type, front desk staff upgraded me to a suite. The amount of space was ridiculous. There was a full living room with sectional sofa, arm chair and dining table with 4 chairs. The bedroom was spacious and separated from the living room.

There is a mini-fridge and coffee maker, but no microwave. The location is great, with a subway stop right outside the hotel. Can't go wrong here.

It is a truly convenient hotel and I was able to get a pretty sweet deal on a room.  This was my first time staying at this Hilton location, and I do see myself returning should the need arise.

I found the staff to be quite friendly, starting immediately with the doormen who offered assistance as soon as my cab rolled up to the hotel.  The front desk was king enough to upgrade the room and found myself on the 42nd floor.  The room was spacious, which can definitely be a challenge in NY.  Now the rooms are smaller than the 57th street Hilton Club, but much better than some of the FiDi locations I've stayed in the past.

The room had a great view of the Hudson River and the lights of Times Square.  Even better, there were some substantial blackout drapes so was able to stay asleep.  The room had the ability to adjust the thermostat, and it was readily accessible.  Even on the upper floors, the complimentary wi-fi was still strong enough to handle my needs.  I did not eat in the restaurant, however I checked out the menu and there was a nice cross section of options from lighter fare to more substantial meals.

No free wifi in room despite indicating free wifi on http://hotels.com. No, they tell me free wi if is only in the lobby. In the room it's $19 per day. In this day and age and for $450 for the night that's unacceptable. Won't stay here again.

I'm in love with this hotel! It was such a treat to stay here and with a $35 charge we were promised a corner room with a view. Let me tell you, the view was breathtaking and my boyfriend and I were so happy we spent the extra little cash to get a view like we did. We were on the 41st floor and could see to our left the Empire State Building and to our front the Freedom tower as well as the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Insane to see all of those in one view. To top it off, our show we saw, Newsies, was literally on the same street as the back exit of the hotel. We could not have asked for a better location. The room was very well furnished and the bed was so comfortable. This stay was worth every penny!

Location, location, location. Even if you don't plan to spend a majority of your time in Times Square, being there means easy access to the rest of the island as well as lots of quick eats. I happened to be there with my family who were visiting from Indonesia, most of whom had never been to NYC - so they actually did want to spend a majority of their time in the area.

Clean, contemporary rooms. Relatively large for New York standards. We had a high floor with a great view of the city.

Also, did you notice how I got this room for less than $200/night during the holidays? Thank you, http://hotels.com.

I have stayed at this hotel dozens of times. I like that it is convenient to many of the Broadway theaters. However, this time was spoiled by a terrible experience at the restaurant.
In the small "Above" restaurant (which is in the hotel foyer and a part of the hotel), there were at least 10 tables unset with used dishes and napkins. We were forced to line up while all these tables remained unattended.
The hot water for tea was tepid, and the wait staff were basically uninterested in providing any hot water.
Though the buffet was supposed to be fully stocked, it was missing food and utensils.
We finished eating, and waited for the check. After about 15 minutes, we asked for the check. The tip was certainly not substantial after such shoddy service.

I noticed that someone had informed the Front Desk Manager of the restaurant issues. When he came over, the service improved briefly (but only briefly).

I do like this hotel, the rooms are large and comfortable. However, this visit was thoroughly spoiled by the bad experience in the restaurant.

They were out of everything. Everything.

My bf and I stopped in for a drink at the hotel bar (he had come here with his Dad and said the view was nice, which it was). We were just going to have dessert and a glass of wine after dinner.

So it turns out they didn't have any of the four dessert wines they had listed. So we asked for a glass of prosecco off the regular wine list, and of course they were out of that too. Then my bf just gave up and ordered a margarita, and I asked for a moscow mule. He says OK. Five minutes later he comes back to tell us that they don't have any ginger beer.

In the middle of all of that, we had already ordered a piece of chocolate cake (which we chose only because they were literally out of every other dessert except sorbet), so we couldn't just cancel everything and leave.

To make things even worse, the service was just terrible. The server literally pulled out his phone while we were asking him a question!

After a while it was just amusing. They literally had nothing. It was only 10pm on a Friday night, in NYC, and they had nothing.

The location couldn't be better for a tourist like me.  We were upgraded to a south facing room on the 40th floor with a wonderful view of the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower.  Plus, as a HH diamond member, we received two complimentary breakfast buffets each day of our stay.

I stayed here for two weekday nights in early January 2013 (the week following New Year's Eve).  I received a great rate since I assume they had a lull in business have the holiday season.

My king-sized room was clean and larger than you often get in NYC. I didn't use any of the hotel services, so I can't comment on those.  Location is great -- assuming you want to stay in the Times Square neighborhood.

One annoying thing was the lack of outlets! Besides the bathroom, the only outlet I could find, was a single plug on the desk lamp. Of course there must have been an outlet by the bed (for the lamps and alarm clock), however it must have been behind the mattress as it wasn't visible on either side of the bed. The desk lamp (with the single free outlet) must have also been plugged into an outlet, but it was behind the TV/dresser cabinet, so it wasn't accessible. Surely hotels must realize that guests have a variety of things to plug in.

I stay frequently at this hotel and their service is great.  It's an easy place to stay and as a Hilton Diamond member, they reward my loyalty with frequent upgrades to some of their best rooms.  The decor is mellow and restful, and having an in room fridge is so convenient.

Great location for a weekend get away.  Nice size rooms with unobstructed views.  The front desk staff were really nice and helpful.  The doormen are the best...tip them and they will take great care of you. Watch out for the pushy Hilton Vacation Rental woman.  She's right there when you get off the elevator from the guest rooms.  Don't make eye contact with her or you're a goner.

Largely a great experience here. Got a fantastic rate here via http://hotels.com in the lull following NYE 2013. We stayed 3 nights.

The location cannot be beat. Although Times Square is a bit obnoxious after you've experienced it once, the convenience of access to other parts of the city can't be beat. You can literally walk from Penn Station.

The room was very nice in that it was very clean and modern. The view from the 43rd floor was spectacular. As much of it was unobstructed giving an amazing view of the NYC skyline.

The staff was friendly and accommodating but nothing over the top.

The only negatives had to do with some renovation they had going on at the time. During the Friday and Monday daytime hours of our stay it was VERY noisy with people working and banging. On top of that, 5 staff members came by and knocked on the door before we checked out. That made it very difficult to sleep in late but I suspect this is not something you'll have to worry about for long.

I recommend this hotel and would stay again if I can afford to. I suspect any other time of year it's quite pricey.

Stayed here during Hurricane Sandy with my boyfriend who was put up in the hotel for the week for work.

The location is fabulous...right on 42nd Street between Broadway and 8th...so you're in the middle of the action. Staff was very friendly despite probably having to trek into the city for work on very difficult commuting days. Room service was delightful..especially since work was comping it.

One thing is...who knows if the price here is really high or if it's because of price gouging during the hurricane...but the bill came out to over $2gs for 4 nights. It's a very central location...but thank goodness I'm from NY and would never have to stay in a hotel in the city.

I undoubtedly enjoyed every last minute I had in this hotel. The service was spot on, the room we got was perfectly decorated and made us feel at home (a very beautiful, well-kept home), and the view from our room on the 43rd floor was magical.

Whenever we ran out of soap, mouthwash, towels, whatever it may be - they were there and within minutes. Everything was impeccably clean and the bed was just so darn comfy. After traveling all over Manhattan for the last two days, this was exactly what I needed.

I have to say, the entrance is a bit hard to find. You could really miss the entrance if you didn't have your eyes peeled.. so keep them peeled! You will need them to be especially in the hustle and bustle of Times Square. It's located right next to the AMC theater. The hotel is really smack dab in the middle of the excitement so this is the perfect place if you want to be within walking distance of literally everything in Times Square. I loved it!

The continental breakfast wasn't too shabby either. My bf and I did feel out of place being the only colored people dining and the only ones under 40 there, but it's wasn't too big of a deal. I ate the awkwardness away with my delicious eggs and bacon. I guess this is the high life!  Why did it have it to end??

We were just there for four nights this week. Our room was amazingly spacious, modern, clean, and what you'd expect from a luxury hotel in a major city. Our window overlooked 42 St and Times Square and yet when the window closed it was quiet (we were on the 40th floor--room 4005). The staff made our whole trip! They were friendly and engaging, helpful and efficient, always smiling and chatty if we spoke. Someone has gone to a lot of effort to insure that courtesy and friendliness are the standard among the staff. Francisco was especially helpful and our maid too, whose name I'm sorry to say, I cannot remember (I believe she was from Africa). When we arrive a gentleman (originally from South Carolina, he told us) brought a rollaway to our room for our teenage son and he was very friendly as were all of the staff that we met.

The location is GREAT! You can get to any part of the city really fast once you learn the subway system. I never once paid for a cab. When you first get into town by yourself a 7 day MTA pass. There is no limit of how often you can use it, You can ride the subways and buses.

The Hotel employees are very nice and always help full. Tipping the guy checking you in always seems to get you a few extra perks. I tipped $20.00 and got free WIFI for the 5 days I was there and one free breakfast (26.00 per person). Also got moved to a bigger room on the 37th floor. great view!

This was my 4th trip to New York and I will not stay anywhere else again. The location as I said is excellent.

Do your self and stay away from corporate restaurants in Time Square! I suggest the Hell's Kitchen area for great food and great bars.

    Good luck!
