Hamilton Sandwich Shop

Change up the pace here with a simple sandwich shop in Midtown..

Ha ha...as usual wildly mixed reviews..

People are as fussy about sandwiches as anything else..

More interesting than a Subway sandwich shop, though, no doubt

I found some of the reviews pretty funny ( my own sense of humor)

Ordered lunch here bc I had 20% off thru seamless. Took about an hour but it was during lunch time so that's pretty much standard. Salad quality is fresh and I disagree with others they don't skimp on the ingrdients, however I paid .75 cents for an extra dressing and they didn't include it! I definitely need my extra dressing and the one they gave me was small for the 'large' salad.. so that's my only gripe about it.

If you need a cheap lunch this is a place to try out, but I'm not sure how many times I'll be ordering from again.

This morning I witnessed the cook cutting raw breakfast meats with the same knife he used for everything else.  Also all the bread was placed on the same counter top he used to cut it.  I told the guy who placed the bread down and he just say "Oh" and left the bread there.  When I told them I didn't want my egg sandwich anymore the guys just refused to address the issue.  They simply said "you don't want it, its not a big deal".  I tried to address the issue again but they just repeated  "you don't want it, its not a big deal".  I checked out the NYC Restaurant Inspection and they have over the past couple years been hit with "critical" violations for contamination issues.

I started coming here more often after Jumbo Bagels next door had the fire.  Food overall is OK but certain things are good.  I usually ordered the same sandwich every time.  I wish this didn't happen because now I cant go back.

Placed an order on GrubHub as I do everyday while at work. I've never had a problem until today. I ordered something so simple...a shot of espresso, fresh lemonade & Atkins omelette (as is). I placed my order & an hour & a half later realized they still haven't showed up, called the deli direct & asked what was going on. Whoever answered the phone told me it went out for delivery 30 minutes ago & to give them a few minutes. Another 20 minutes went by & still no sign of the delivery guy. Called the deli back to cancel & it took 15 minutes to cancel my order. After canceling I left the salon & went to grab food at a different place. When I came back to the salon & finished eating my lunch from another place the delivery guy showed up & after I told him I cancelled it & he slammed his arms down & stormed out the door.

So after placing my order 2 hours prior I was unable to even see or enjoy my food & dealt with a rude delivery guy. For all of that I could of walked there & back by now.

I order lunch for delivery often at this place. Their salads and sandwiches are decent for the price, but they're not the most consistent. Let's just say that they're not always the most generous with their servings. A large salad would barely even fill half of their bowl at times. It's hard for me to say that I don't feel a little cheated.

I'll be honest; there isn't really a reason for me to order from them . . . except for the fact that they have goat cheese as an option for their salads. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be a returning customer. So I guess it might just boil down to whether if you like goat cheese or not. Yes, that is the conclusion that I'll stick with!

I've only ordered take out from here during lunch.

Salads: Full of veggies, they don't skimp. Solid amounts of dressing on the side. The veggies have always been crisp and fresh. I appreciate that everything is diced to bite size. Salad prices are about the same as every other place I've been to in Midtown, with fresher produce and more generous servings.

Grilled cheese: hot, toasted and ooze-y.

The delivery has always been ultra-fast (15 min. or so), but that may be because I'm only a couple avenues away. Even so!

Ordered a turkey sandwich and cheese fries delivery which was on time.
Turkey sandwich was okay, sort of tasted like something i could get at the Food Emporium, nothing special.

    Cheese fries were cold.

My boo got onion rings that must be Ore-Ida brand in the frozen section of your local grocery store. They tasted exactly the same. She got the chicken parm hero, which she states as gross. The bread tasted stale, the chicken - frozen, not enough sauce or cheese.

We're $20 poorer with gross tastes in our mouth from food that I could have bought at the Food Emporium down the street.

Don't order here, go to your grocery store.

    I want my money back.

Whenever I don't know what to have for dinner and I'm not  in the mood  to cook, Hamilton is always the answer.

It looks cleaner than your average deli. I normally get my food to go or have it delivered, although they do have some tables if you decide to sit there instead. Their hot creative sandwiches are my  favorite.
    - Let It Ride (chicken cutlet, melted swiss cheese, onion rings, & gravy on a hero)
    - Nuts & Bolts (chicken AND eggplant parmigiana on a hero)

The onion rings are obviously what make the Let It Ride so good. It reminds me of fat sandwiches at the grease trucks (shoutout to Rutgers), although the sandwich can sometimes be dry if there isn't enough gravy. The Nuts & Bolts satisfies my craving when I can't decide between chicken or eggplant parmigiana, so it's BOTH in one sandwich. This could also use a bit more sauce, but the chicken and eggplant are breaded with just enough batter for a slight crunch.

The only cold creative sandwich I've tried is The Godfather (ham, salami, pepperoni, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, tomato, hot and sweet peppers, onions, oil and vinegar on a hero). This left much to be desired because it was not packed with meat like they do at Lenny's. In theory, the combination of all the various meats and toppings would make an excellent sandwich, but in practice, it just wasn't oozing with flavor like it should from all the smoked meats.

The burgers are really big, and if you get it delivered, the bread unfortunately arrives soggy. They have very generously sized portions of sides like onion rings or fries.

The prices are reasonable. $8+ for a hero with creative combos that go well together. They have a frequent buyer card, so when you buy 10 sandwiches, you get one free. I think I go here at least once a month, and it makes me sad to know that I missed out on groupons for this place -- that should tell you how much I like this place if I'm willing to go here without any discounts.

The food is good, I'll give you that. Decent prices for a large, stuffed sandwich, and the deal of the day ($6.50 for a soup and sandwich) is a winner. I've had the Clinton (chicken salad and bacon) and the All-Star (roast beef, cheese and thousand island), and both have hit the spot.

Service is okay at best, and this would be a four star joint if it weren't for the outdated salad menu...yes, I get salad sometimes, alright? If you're going to create your own salad, don't look at the large menu on the wall, as the prices are old. There is a small sheet of paper on the sneeze-guard with the most recent prices, which you'd never even see if the person behind the counter didn't tell you to stop looking at the large menu above you (huh?). It ain't cheap either; the salad set me back over $10. I've gotten a very similar salad in Midtown for less money.

If making your own salad is your thing, skip this place, as I'm sure there are more affordable options in Midtown East. For sandwiches though, Hamilton does the job.

I wish I could review their food but it never came.  I gave the guy on the phone my office address and cross-streets and went downstairs when the delivery guy called...except he wasn't there.  Of course I didn't have his phone number so I went back and forth with Hamilton who was telling me he was right where I was standing - except he wasn't there!  After 15 minutes I went back up to my desk and got a call from reception 10 minutes later - the delivery guy was there.  No thank you, not coming back after that!

Sandwiches and wraps are pretty good here. Seems like they have a decent selection of soups, too, which I've been meaning to try. If i remember correctly, they have a special that varies each day, which includes a cup of soup and half a sandwich.

Last time I ordered from here, I placed my order on Seamless and it took 30 minutes (to pick up). To make a sandwich? I thought that was kinda ridiculous. If you're ordering from here, I suggest you go without pre-ordering, it'll be quicker.

Love this. I came on a Groupon but would go back without one. I got the Bagel Deluxe; comes with cream cheese, nova scotia lox, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and I asked for capers instead of olives. So good and I couldn't eat all of it in one sitting. I'd been craving some bagel and lox for a while and this truly hit the spot.

I met the owner as well and he was super sweet. The service is very accommodating. Woot!

Need a place to swing through and grab lunch in midtown? This place is fine.

And that's really all I can tell you about it -- I don't have a funny story or clever adage to tell you about, so all I have to fall back on is the salad.

Make-your-own salad places are fairly common the further wast you go in midtown, but as you get to 2nd and 1st Ave. in this neighborhood they're a lot less prevalent, so it's nice to have it here. The ingredients are fairly fresh, but you're not served primarily well by getting the large salad -- they put the same amount in the large as the small, so unless you want a dollar's worth of extra lettuce the small is the way to go.

Prices are fairly consistent, $9.00 for the equivalent salad as you'd get from Toasties on 3rd Ave. for $8.50, and 20 oz. bottles of soda are $1.95 just like Toasties. Better deal than Pax or Chop't but it really depends on how much you like the people and location; it's not worth walking out of your way for.

I don't know anything about the sandwiches or delivery, but it's clean, they make salads, have no delivery fees on Seamless and get your stuff done on time. They certainly fit a need, and are a perfectly fine salad option.

Order a sandwich with a 20% off coupon from Seamless, and I would say this place is just okay.  It's dirt cheap with no delivery minimum, which makes it a pretty generic place.  Sandwich (cracked pepper turkey with avocado,  was acceptable, but by no means my favorite sandwich place on the Upper East Side.

Ordered my food at 2:22pm, and received it at about 2:40pm, when the delivery time was 30-45 minutes.  I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll definitely use Hamilton again if I was in the need for cheap munchies, and their delivery range was phenomenal (My place is in the East 80s and York, and the place is in like, midtown).

    Not bad.

The neighborhood was great and very quiet around lunch time. We had a Groupon here and enjoyed our visit. Cozy little sandwich shop and the food was great! Really great!

The husband had a greek burger with feta cheese and balsamic dressing that he loved and I had a cup of split pea soup (it was really cold in April) and a BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) on rye. Best BLAT I've had in a long time and I loved the shredded lettuce they used!

This place is so disgusting prison inmates would turn down the food. I made the titanic mistake of going with reviews and failed miserably. First if all they took an hour and a half to deliver my ice cold food, which was mushy and everything was slathered in ketchup, even though it is not a part of anything I ordered. At all. I threw it away after looking at a burger with weird tiny little round rings that smelled like baked cardboard. It was inedible, and I was so hungry after waiting nearly two hours I thought I could have eaten anything, but they proved me wrong. I am grossed out enough to stay up and call seamless to demand a refund, save yourself the horror of having to stomach this filth.

Good people, good food and great, fresh-ground coffee.  The neighborhood really needed a place like this.  And they do a MEAN egg wrap in the morning.  Sandwich menu is mouthwatering and all the ingredients are top-notch.

The delivery service here is sub par to say the least.  The first time I ordered from here they messed up one item of the order, but the food was okay and it was cheap so I decided to give it another try, which was clearly a mistake.  This time I got a call because they were out of the beverage I selected (I agreeably chose a different one), but then when I received my order, one of the sandwich add-ons (that you pay for) was missing.
This time I called to complain and they offered to refund me $ .50 for the missing add-on.  I also mentioned I was calling as a courtesy because this was the 2nd time I've ordered and subsequently had a bad experience.
Really, though? 50 cents and no other offer to rectify the situation?  He wasn't even apologetic,  it's just bad business.  Additionally, this grilled chicken is fatty  and unappetizing.  Don't waste your time or money, even it if is cheap-- more trouble than it's worth.
