Garlic Pizza- Murray Hill

Now called Garlic Pizza, there has been a pizzeria at this spot for a long time...present place continues tradition of having street art statue of pizza baker outside

Good reviews--but again, there were even more reviews here and some were not so complimentary, so it is the usual NY Yelp story

    Pretty solid Garlic!

Although the plain slice* is a tad bit pricey at $2.75 (especially since it is not a big slice), it's definitely noticeably better than those dollar slice joints littered around the city. Great flavor, minimal grease, and a nice chewy crust.

I also got a side order of 4 garlic knots (~$2**) and I kid you "knot" (haha, sorry), these were some of the best I've ever had. Perfect size, right amount of garlic seasoning***, and just doughy enough. They were even kind enough to throw in some super yummy sauce on the side for free!

I got my food to go, but next time, I def want to check out their sit down BYOB! Especially since all the staff was very friendly.

    -----------------------------------------
*The plain slice is the only traditionally shaped one; all the other slices are Sicilian/rectangular.

**Oddly enough, there are no prices advertised anywhere if you're taking out so be sure to consult one of their menus before you order!

***True to its name, Garlic goes heavy on the garlic, so even though it's delicious,  make sure you carry a breath mint!

    Inexpensive? Check.
    Decent food? Check.
    BYOB? Check.
    Corking fee? NO?! Sweet.

What a nice, hidden gem. I was lured in by Yelp's promise of an inexpensive BYOB place, and it did not disappoint.

At first glance from the sidewalk, it looks to be just a run of the mill pizzeria -- which it is, up front. Walk past the counter, and there's a small room with additional seating. There's also an outdoor patio with several tables, very quaintly lit with string lights and standards quietly humming over their stereo system: perfect for a warm summer night.

My friend and I brought our own bottle of vino and ordered a pizza with two half-toppings, plus an order of garlic knots. Grand total was $19. Unheard of in Murray Hill.

The food wasn't anything to write home about, but it was certainly not the worst slice I've ever had. I can only speak to the pizza and garlic knots, but their menu has plenty of salad and pasta options, too. (Plus dessert!)

There weren't many tables so the server was pretty attentive. Really, I'm fond of the low price and the ambience, though I don't know that the latter would hold up in the winter. The indoor seating isn't really dressed up as much -- it looks like a slightly nicer version of a back room at Sbarro's -- but for the warmer months, it's just fine.

The pizzas here are great.  The dough is so fluffy its like cotton balls in my mouth.  The buffalo chicken pizza is really good.  They have it with and without ranch.  The margarita pizza was good too, except it could use more basil.  It's a piece of basil leaf per slice (square) of pizza.  It would be better if they put shredded basil.

The penne pizza was delicious as well. However, I think it would be kick-ass if they pit a layer of ground beef under the penne and call it lasagna pizza.

The fried eggplant pizza was pretty good, but not my favorite.

The workers there are super nice.  I would say the nicest pizza people I have ever encountered.  I like how we got three slices to go and they put it in a pizza box.  Some places put it on a paper plate and cover it with another paper plate and then the cheese gets stuck. They just put the pizza on a plate and place it in a pizza box.  Take-out service is just as important to be as dining in.  For take-out service, it is hands down one of the best, which is why I give it a 4 vs 5 star. For a pizzeria, it is definitely the best take-out and customer service I have ever had.

The best pizza in Murray hill by far. We had a few issues with delivery, which is why no 5 stars. Otherwise, the pizza is amazing, and the sauce to topping dynamic is consistently great. Also, check out grandma's pizza. Caused me the first disappointment in my own grandma. Sorry GMA!

Was here with a large group of about 16 people, they gave us our own space in the back and the pizza was cheap. We ordered several pies and it was only $15/pp including 20% tip. They also have a really nice patio too. Would definitely recommend for larger groups.

Came here with a friend when we were both stumped on what we wanted to eat. We were walking down 2nd Ave and came across this spot. Looked decent so we went in.

The pizza was good, but not amazing to be charging what they charge for a slice. Was offered to take a seat and a waiter would come and take my order which was nice of them but I'm looking to eat a few slices not wine and dine.

Had two slices with my good old pal and still had felt hungry so I had the buffalo chicken pizza which was good. The layout of the place is nice and the outdoor space looked small but cozy.  Would come here again if I'm in the neighborhood

    Decor: 4/5
-roughly 16 seating outdoors and 25 indoors

    Service: 3/5
-overall pretty good but they calculated tax at 11%, either this was a simple miscalculation but I wasn't too happy when my friends had pointed this out so I'm deducting one star

    Food: 4.5/5
-Margharita sicilian ($3.50) had a crispy crust with generous tomato, cheese and basil yet not salty at all (comparing to Artichoke). So yummy! (5/5)
-Eggplant parmesan sicilian ($3.50) had a baked eggplant on top of a crispy crust covered with tomato sauce and cheese. This was good but not as yummy as the margharita (4/5)
-Garlic knots were more on the hard and crispy side. I liked how the garlic was not overpowering. (4/5)

    • Margharita and eggplant parmesean

Two slices, Five stars. Best pizza I've had in this hood. Fresh and delicious.  Also deep pan pizza is their specialty for those who love deep dish. And they have a little hidden outdoor  patio in the back that you wouldn't see unless you popped in. Highly highly highly recommend.

I'm a big fan of this pizza. It's not your typical thinner NYC slices, but it's a doughier crust. I loved their ricotta topped slices, and they have a great meat lovers pizza as well. Lots of different menu options and quick service (haven't tried their delivery yet). It's my goto spot for this area in Manhattan. I can understand why some people would prefer a different pizza style, but if you like thick slices, definitely try this place out.
