Galway- Midtown

Right in the middle of Midtown

Looks very nice, gets pretty good reviews

There are a couple of decent Irish places in this area still

Oh, one very serious sour apple at the very end...woman has what sounds like a real gripe about the behavior of a bouncer here

A few friends will make the occasional reservation in one of the back rooms. We get $5 beers and there are plenty of good looking people around. While the place has a great vibe when you are with friends, on more than one occasion we've "joined groups" ... so to speak ... and met some awesome people.

    Great for singles to.

Nice place to go to after you get out of work midday. I wouldn't recommend this place for someone who goes to just college bars. The people seems a little snobbish but other then that the place is fun. Snobby people can be fun too. You can tell some of the men who go here are looking for other business type people like them self. Is it ok you can wind down and relax. Unlike the people who go here the service is great. I was very pleased that they had fireball whiskey.  The place is pretty big for its size. I would like to however go back here for food. The whiskey Wednesday special is pretty good.

    :::BATHROOM ALERT:::
pretty happy about the bathrooms and they were clean. I am not sure how clean they would be in the am hours rather then the early pm hours (5pm to 8pm). I did however like the coconut bathroom soap that they had.

Either way if this isn't your place at least go for the specials $4 for a beer isn't bad. However I am used to $1 beers but if you want to feel a little "fancy" go here.

Galway Pub is a two level Irish Pubs that is located in midtown on 36th street between 5th and Madison with about 21 HD TV's for all you sports lovers.

It seems as if the only time I come here is during an event.  There is a room in the back on the second level for all events.  Not sure how many people the room accommodates but during this event, the room was over crowded. No staff going around taking drink/food orders and the bar was pack. Only one bartender that could have been friendlier but how could he when he was the only one taking people drink orders. It took me 10 minutes before I could get a drink from him. Not blaming him at all but if there is going to be an event at this place; they should be a little more prepared with their staff.

Over all, it was nothing for me to brag about. Go check it out for yourself and tell me what you think. I am sure I will be back for another event.

This place was a decent pub during the Galway hooker days now sadly it's turned into sort of an Irish dump pub. Dirty bartenders, filthy taps, disgusting food and extremely poor service. I wish I could give less than one star review. I honestly would not recommend ever visiting this poor run establishment.

    Great happy hour beers!!!!
Every other place in this area charges 8 or 9 bucs for a good ale.  Here it's happy hour till 7pm. 4 bucs. Goose island IPA.

I come here whenever I need a glass of wine with lunch. The Cobb salad is amazinggggg I can't get enough of it. The soups are eh but everything else on the menu is pretty good. The sliders are also one of my favs you must try them. If you're in the area and want a nice lunch special this is one of them but keep in mind lunch is over at 3pm

Food is OK. Real reason to come - $4 beers during happy hour from 12-6 on weekends! Laid back and unpretentious vibe. One thing I didn't like so much either is that it was really dark inside...even more so than a usual bar. It felt like nighttime inside the bar...that's definitely fine at night but during the day a few more windows or lights wouldn't hurt.

Just visited this place from out of town.  The backrooms give you a good mix of hanging out with a big group and a happening active scene.  The crowd had a nice mix and at least the night we were there, the crowd was pretty much looking to have a good time.  The bartenders were pretty good and responsive.

I went here after work on Friday for drinks.  Happy hour lasted until 7. The bar got very crowded easily around 6 so  we went upstairs and found a booth and squished 5 ladies into it.  $4 everything... beer, well drinks, etc. We also ordered chips and guacamole, calamari and mozzarella sticks as the perfect drunk food.

The crowd is mostly late 20's- early 40's.  Very nice and chill.  We were conversing with the guys at the next table and realized they were doing Pickleback shots (shot of whiskey, followed by a shot of pickle juice)!  I had these shots at another bar and loved them so I had to have them here. Beware! These shots seem to be on time release and have a delayed reaction.  An hour and a half later, you'll be leaning and swaying. :-) I'll def be back to Galway.

    OK, Here's the skinny.
This place is jam packed Friday evenings. It's not a once in a while thing, but an every Friday thing. The problem is their isn't much competition around, and Gingerman which is also a large bar, gets equally packed Friday nights.
On the bright side, this place is quiet enough to have a midweek happy hour with coworkers. You can even reserve space upstairs free of charge, and since most of the upstairs space is reserved, their are less people to fight with for the bartenders attention.
The Happy hour special is legit, $4 for a well, but come 7pm and you'll pay nearly double at $7 a pop.

This is a solid bar with a good lunch deal and decent happy hour (especially with their draft beer menu) in a part of Midtown where that is hard to come by.

Their private backrooms (for parties, company events, etc...) are well serviced and the bartenders have shown they can definitely keep up once the happy hour crowd starts packing in at 6pm. Every experience I've had with the bartenders here has been a good one. They are fun, professional, polite, and generally willing to chit chat when they aren't busy.

During lunch the $10 for a drink, appetizer, and entree deal is great. The food, while not amazing or even really that healthy, is well worth the money. The Fresh Mozzarella sandwich with a side salad is a personal favorite and they are quite generous with the amount of cheese they throw on.

Overall, particularly when compared to other large pubs in the neighborhood, I think this is a fun place to get a bite and share a couple of rounds with co-workers.

Galway is a three star spot each and every time I go there.

That is not a bad thing at all.  It is consistent, there is beer, and there is a great atmosphere.  Unfortunately, because there is lots and lots of beer, there are fraternity boy types, young and old that are attracted to the Galway Pub like an insect is attracted to the light......

But there is usually enough room in the place so that everyone can have their own space and experience...

Love this bar - it's like my very own Cheers!  The bartenders are always fun and fast and the food is pretty delicious too!  Great spot for an early happy hour or a late night mini dance party.

I went for a holiday after party.
Saw another black girl get grabbed and abused by an African bouncer guy. He was so abusive towards her. He grabbed her arm extremely hard and was shouting at her. She wasn't being that aggressive & I just saw her trying to get by the men's bathroom. And all of the other bouncers were so rude towards her and yelling at her. She wasn't disruptive at all. It was absolutely degrading and disgusting.

For me to see that, I want nothing to do with this place. They abuse and disrespect women & it's DISGUSTING. I left after I saw this.

And how FUNNY would if be if your mother, sister, or daughter were in this situation?
