Dog Spa and Hotel- Flatiron

I am posting this because I grew frustrated trying to find ANY reviews for another place  I had taken a photo of  and so I looked for a top-rated place on Yelp for dogs, which this is ( lots of raves and just one dissenter).(This photo from internet)

Took out the really old reviews but left in several praiseful ones from 2011 because the newer ones are almost all good too

After posting my review, the actual owner of NY Dog Spa & Hotel took time to contact me directly regarding my dog's experience with his stay.  He gratiously reimbursed me for his vet bills related to his stay.

I have to say it was one of my best experiences (post-bad experience) with a new york business that a bad thing happened.

He showed a great deal of concern for my dogs recovery that was truly genuine and caring.  It is definitely the type of place I would feel comfortable taking my dog to knowing that the handlers truly are dog lovers and care about your pets as much as you do.

We rarely use boarding but if we do again in the future, I would consider bringing him back here

I've taken my Golden Retriever/Beagle mix twice and each time he's received an attractive cut. It's a bit on the expensive side, but they watched him for the entire day as I couldn't leave work early.

I love this place and so does my dog. We do not have the easiest guy to care for - a 100 lb Mastiff-pit mix. He is sweet and well-meaning but incredibly strong, excitable and willful. You need to know what you're doing with him, so we can't leave him just anywhere, especially for up to two weeks at a time! Luckily, the staff here knows what they are doing.

As soon as we get out of the cab, Mott goes nuts and literally runs through the door to greet his human friends, who know him by name and are happy to see him as well. Since you can't exactly ask your dog how he's treated when you're not around, his reaction to the place is the best barometer - Mott's crazy enthusiasm tells me what I need to know. My husband and I actually get jealous of how much he adores some of the people working there. When we pick up him up, he's always been clean, healthy and happy.

We are so lucky to have found this place three years ago. We had made a reservation at Pupculture, which is right near our apartment. We went to drop him off on the way to the airport. The guy took one look at him and said, "Absolutely not. He's way too big." With a flight to catch in just a few hours, I was pretty panicked. Fortunately, a friend with two crazy dogs recommended New York Dog Spa & Hotel. I called and they were so nice, even communicating with the vet to help me out. We've been loyal customers ever since, even though it's pretty far away from us.

    Definitely recommend!

I have been really pleased with my experiences here.  The staff is friendly, they take the boarding dogs on walks which I love since my pup L-O-V-E-S being outside to take care of his business (show off that he is).  I also like that the place has a good stock of toys, treats, and food to purchase, has friendly customer service, and the dogs seem to have a lot of space to run around and attention from the staff.

I will also say that while I didn't end up boarding my pup here post-Sandy (since I ended up being able to stay with friends who were happy to have me and him) the Dog Spa and Hotel seemed to be on top of their stuff in letting me make and subsequently cancel reservations for the UES location when I was unsure of my situation and keeping me up-to-date with what was going on with the facilities during that time, which I appreciated.

The only complaint I have is that at times it is hard to get hold of the business or know their hours, which is annoying when you're trying to save a few bucks by picking up or dropping off at odd hours sometimes.

As a trainer once told us, good daycares are hard to come by. They start off good but then tend to be about money and cost cutting.  There are several reasons I give them one star, they kept making mistakes  and my dog kept getting sick.  They fed our dog his breakfast at dinner time when we went to pick him up. They chopped his eyelashes on one eye during grooming. He picked up skin rashes and got giardia.

They lock up the dogs half the time, so they say. He was more often locked up when we would pick him up so I question if he was really out 50 percent of the time.  I don't recommend having a dog spend most of his daytime in a kennel.

We are now trying out D Pet Hotel. So far so good. I will write a review in a few months as we see how things go there.  Hopefully it's better. It appears cleaner and our dog is never locked up.

    - fast and friendly
    - wonderful grooming

I made an appt. for my dog at 12 PM and was told he'd be finished around 4 PM. They called me at 2 PM and told me he was ready, I was slightly worried they might have rushed the job but my dog came out looking beautiful! I've been to a few groomers around the city and it's always the other way around, my dog's groomer is running behind and needs more time..

I also bought a Yelp deal for grooming. I was charged $50 something with the discount, not including tip (the original was about $80 something, average around the city). I was called a little later saying that they overcharged me by mistake and would refund $29-yay honesty! I was so happy with my dog's grooming, I didn't even notice they overcharged me -__-

Great staff, great groomers. I would definitely recommend :D

I've had my dog groomed here twice.  Now I'll admit, both times I used coupons, but I would definitely return and pay regular price.  The first time I got her groomed, it only took about 2 hours.  The second time, they had her all day -- literally (I dropped her off at 10:30 and got her at 6).  I did, however, tell the groomer to take his time as I had a bunch or errands to run.

The grooms are consistently good.  She's super soft after her bath and her nails are trimmed.  The last time she was groomed, I waited in the lobby for her to be finished.  The groomer was careful when handling her (I could see through a window) and my dog seemed to be enjoying her grooming.

The groomer listened to exactly what I wanted.  I'll definitely be back!

I have taken my two dogs Deniro and Stevie Wonder to the dog spa to be groomed. Little Stevie is blind and needs a little extra love and attention which they are always sure to give.
not only do my pups look great when I pick them up but it is obvious they have been treated gently and with respect.
not cheap but worth the peace of mind.

Went here on the recommendation of a neighbor, and am continually impressed by the quality of care and customer service. It's really well-managed, super clean, spacious and full of friendly, trustworthy staff members who shower my dog with affection.

I come here mostly for grooming because they do a phenomenal job (Penny has never smelled so good) but only do daycare once in a while because my dog is pretty shy around big groups of dogs and doesn't always do well in daycare environments. But I have some friends who take their dogs here regularly for daycare and they love it. I think it depends on your dog's disposition.

Start to finish, the staff were courteous, knowledgeable, and flexible, with a number of good recommendations for our Shorkie male's first grooming. Allison's work far exceeded our expectations in terms of thoroughness and attention to detail. He came out looking even better than we had hoped, and from a few simple suggestions and pictures of what we were looking for, they were able to deliver exactly what we wanted.

The facility itself is very bright and clean, and the staff is super friendly.

I can't recommend them highly enough.

I have a 9 year old Border Collie with about 70% eyesight loss. I drive in from Long Island because these are the people I want taking care of my boy. He has stayed there many times and I don't know what magic they do but he loves it and comes home happy and healthy.

Oops, accidentally posted this on the wrong page, guess I'm not one of the select few to realize how amazing this place is, as I'd originally thought! Good to see everyone else agrees though.

We took my cousin's toy poodle, Faze, here so he could have a day at the spa too while we were getting pampered elsewhere, and it was great! He had a full day of romping, primping and fun.

Their website could use some updating, but the places itself is awesome, the facilities are huge, very clean, and just generally well maintained and decorated. The staff were nice, helped us pick out a fun new style for Faze (who looked rocking with his cute little mohawk!) It was great to know he was being looked after while we were off having fun, my cuz is usually so worried about him and leaving him anywhere, but just from talking to the staff she knew he was in good hands, they really love all the dogs like their own!

Also, check out the retail section, they have the cutest toys! I brought one home for my boy Finn and he looooved it, plus it's still alive, compared to the toys I normally get him that he destroys in 5 seconds flat...

If my pup could type, I would have him write this review.  However, as his human servant, I must fulfill that role. No worries - he is supervising and making edits (his eyebrows twitch if he disagrees with my translation) every step of the way.

(hold on a sec ... He's just requested a biscuit and I must obey)
    (ok ... I'm back ... he's a real task master!)

Doggie day care establishments come and go. This one has been around for years. I like the fact that the staff doesn't change at the blink of an eye like alot of places. Plus, my little pup (BTW - he's actually. 95 lb. and 8 year old, but he'll always be my little puppy) likes being there. Some of you may wonder how a human can know that. Well, dog owners, for the most part, know their dogs and their reactions to things. When I take my pup to this daycare, he pulls to go in!  When he gets inside, he doesn't even say "see ya later, mommie" ... he just runs to the back and greets the staff with his ferociously wagging tail and hyper-salivating tongue. I'm left standing at the front desk abandoned. That must be how mothers feel when their kids go to schoo for the first timel :(

Now let's compare his behavior at another day care. There were two others much closer to my home. Once he gets hints that he's going to the other day cares, his ears flop down so flat, it's like all of the cartilage and muscle disappear. Then he gives me this look ... you know the look ... the "don't you love me?" look.  It's quite painful on the receiving end.  He makes every attempt to go in another direction, turn the corner, play dead on the sidewalk - - name it, he's done it. Last year, there was a day when it was a bit snowy and icy outside.  When we got about 10 feet from the entrance, he started bolting down the street and ran right past the place. I felt like an Eskimo being pulled by snow dogs.  Luckily, a mailbox blocked my passage.  Ouch!  When I finally manage to get him inside, he gives me that look.

Well, at this point, I just take him to NY Dog Spa, even though I have to walk a good 20 blocks to get there. But his happiness is worth it.

I love this place for it's convenient location to the dog run at Madison Park.  My usual routine is to take my dog to one of the puppy classes offered through the Dog Spa with Andrea Arden Dog Training then swing him by the dog run for an extra playtime extravaganza then allow him to poop out under my table while I indulge in Shake Shack.

Andrea Arden Dog Training is fantastic, by the way.  My 7 month puppy can sit, stay, come, walk on a leash, is housebroken, doesn't bark and does a number of tricks.  The walking on a leash part was the biggest ordeal but they helped me through it.

The Dog Spa, itself, is run by a friendly staff in a clean location.  The prices are a bit high but it's expected in the neighborhood.  They offer a good array of healthy puppy treats which is great for my picky Shih Tzu.  I'll always think of these guys first when it comes to my pup.

(Note: This review applies to a stay in late 2011. The review has been updated to reflect a response from management to my original post.)-- Original post (edited): We brought our two small (12-13 lb) 1.5-2 year old dogs here out of necessity. Would normally never take them to a boarding place- but based on reviews and a Yelp Deal I gave it a try. Long story short the boarding was only adequate. It is Manhattan so the price is high but that's to be expected. Upon our return our dogs smelled like they'd been bathed in other dog's urine- I guess that is why they recommend a bathing at the end of the stay. If you live in Manhattan do try their day care first or find other options before leaving your prize pooch at a kennel. If you do end up going here be sure to observe your dog's state of mind upon leaving and the day after. It took several days of calming and training to return our small dogs to an even and relaxed energy. The experience was stressful for our dogs. Perhaps larger dogs would do better in this environment.

All I can say is WOW! Our new puppy, Leah, was having some serious separation anxiety. So much so that I got a nasty call from my front desk in the middle of the day that my neighbors were not too pleased with her barking and wining. So after running home from work and some quick googling, I called New York Dog Spa & Hotel. Not only did they come to my rescue, since it was only for a few hours they didn't even charge me for the day!

Everyone there was so nice. When I walked in, they knew I was there to pick up Leah... they already knew her name after three hours! We were so impressed we canceled our scheduled grooming at another place and booked it here instead. If your puppy or doggy needs anything, this is the one place in NYC to go.

I work from home and my dog is with me at all times. She is not often left alone. Also my dog came from a shelter and absolutely freaks out when she enters a "kennel" type environment. I don't want her to be psychologically scarred because I needed to take a vacation.

So a kennel is never an option for me... I usually leave my dog with a friend or family. On a recent road trip from Michigan to New York however, I was forced to take Autumn the Dog with me.

The good news is: It is a myth that New Yorkers are unfriendly. People were very nice wherever I went. Dog friendly is another story though. The hotel I was staying at gave me an absolute "no"!

Fortunately, for people like me, there are dog hotels like the New York Dog Spa & Hotel. It's in a really cool old building and looks like a "people spa" from the outside. Dogs get their own private suite and they'll even take them for walks. This is an absolute necessity for my dog, because she will hold her poop for days. If you don't walk her, she won't poop.

Don't leave your best friend in a kennel. Board them here and be happy you did.

I've been taking my Havanese puppy there for two years. Have used both the day care and extended boarding (e.g. two weeks). They took good care of my puppy and the staff was super friendly. Owner Dale truly loves dogs. He even made special arrangement so that I can board my puppy middle of the night if necessary when I was expecting my son and could go into labor anytime.
