Clover Deli

Neighborhood place Kips Bay/Murray Hill that is on no one's list of glamor places but people like it for what it is

It has been around for a long time..maybe I should have taken out some of the really old reviews...

Most people think it is pricey but this is Midtown Manhattan

I'm always in the mood for baked goods.  Who isn't?  My friend loves Rainbow Cookies, and so I'm always on the lookout for the best Rainbow Cookie near me.  I had tried a few other places in the area, but the cookies were too dry, there was too much jam, or the flavors were just a little off.  I was so happy to have found this place because the Rainbow Cookies here are almost perfect!  They always seem to taste fresh and have the perfect combination of chocolate, almond, and jam.

The people working here are always friendly, and I never have to wait to get my fix of something sweet.  I also appreciate that you can buy any amount of cookie that you want and you don't need to purchase a minimum amount by weight.

I wish that I could speak more about the other items in their bakery--they all look delicious, but I am only ever really interested in the Rainbow Cookies.  Be on the lookout for an update though after I've sampled a few more of their sweet treats!

I was drawn to Clover Deli by its ancient sign. I figured if it can survive NYC this long, it must be a pretty solid business right? I stepped in to try their Italian cookies by pound.

I think it is overpriced to be honest. They charge $16 a lb for these cookies. The selection is decent but not as good as Veniero's. I picked a few and they cost $8! I definitely feel ripped off. The cookies are pretty good but I can get the same cookies at Whole Foods now for $9 a lb!

I really want to like this place. They are always very friendly and accommodating. But I've tried two meals there and I couldn't finish either of them. The first was a meatball sub a few weeks ago, with no flavor and soggy bread. Last night I tried the Cesar Salad, which was written on their board. You could tell the ingredients had been sitting in the heat all day. Stale croutons, blah chicken and some wilting lettuce. The dressing was also weirdly sweet. I had about three bites, waste of money.

Their desserts do look fantastic, but my food experiences so far have me doubting that.

    Mmmmm......butter cookies.

One of those old school spots that has been family run since the 1940's. Love seeing that bygone era neon sign above the storefront all lit up at night. Basically a combo deli and bakery. Come in to get a sandwich and also leave with a pastry item.

Guys who work the counter are friendly. Kind of expensive though. I did drop in here last night on the way home from work after walking by and seeing all the terrific looking butter cookies in the window. Cost me $8 for half a pound. Ok, I have to admit they were good cookies.

    I have no willpower lately.

Really solid and reliable deli sandwiches with lots of options and combinations. This place won't necessarily wow you but it certainly will not disappoint.

I will reserve my usual overly-verbose and anecdotal review writing style for this Clover Deli review.

A bright, clean, inviting deli with great service. They take pride in what they do, and everything about Clover reflects that.  Well-stocked counter and fridges, with good beer and chips selection.  I highly recommend the clover subs, the mortadella/salami/provolone being my favorite--perfection.

    I LOVE the Clover Deli.

I honestly thought that the only reason I loved this place so much was that I lived right next to it, but after going to several other delis in the area, I always come back to this one.

They have a great deli counter, but in addition to this, they have some of the best sweets around the neighborhood.  Plus, the staff is great!

I highly recommend this place for a sandwich on the go or a bagel and coffee in the morning.  Very inviting and a lot less stuffy than some of the other cramped delis around the corner.

The same owners own "House of Wine and Liquor", which is right next door, and I love that place equally!

Pretty good deli. Looks like they've been there for decades. Clover churns out well made sandwiches and some decent baked goods too. While the heroes are usually delicious, the baked goods can be all over the places in terms of quality. Some things are fresh while some have clearly been sitting there for a bit too long. Overall though, Clover is still a solid place to stop by for a quick bite or snack.

When I make my twice yearly trek to Murray Hill, I reward myself with three cookies from the amazing assortment at Clover Deli. Both varieties of Florentine Lace cookies are recommended. :)

Great sandwiches for a reasonable price, the Pesto Panini was perfect and also recommend the "Casanova" lox sandwich.

This was my first deli sandwich in New York. I had a roast beef on rye...tasty and filling! The guy that made my sandwich was kind of amazed that all I wanted on it was the meat, mustard and tomatoes...but that is how I like it!

Delicious sandwiches, coffee and hot meals - the best chicken piccata I ever had.  Amazing chicken parm too.  We love it!

I'll keep this short.  Just managed to eat the most expensive and yet the most disgusting grilled cheese in my life.  $7.50, the bread wasn't even grilled.  Stay away from this place if at all possible.

The price range should be $$$$! they charged me $8 bucks for 8 assorted cookies. i wanted to kindly tell them I changed my mind but I ended up forking the money. The rainbow cake was too sweet and the chocolate dipped cookies were dry. so disappointed and can't believe how much they charge!!!

I was a little disturbed at all their cakes, pies, and torts sitting in the freezer with frost on them. Is that supposed to happen?

I lived on this God-forsaken block for three years and found Clover Deli to be an oasis in a desert.  They serve some of the best made-to-order sandwiches in NYC and their pastries bring people in from boroughs around.  Also: their rye bread is better than any high-end kosher deli I know of -- and I know of many!  Sadly, they are closed on Sundays -- but that made me appreciate them all the more during the rest of the week.  Thank you Clover!

Since the first words are the most read in a review I will say: ABSOLUTELY GOD's GIFT to NYC! Every sandwich, salad, soup is amazing. My favorites are the "3 bean-salad" (awesome), "chili" (awesome), "Greek pasta salad" (awesome)! EVERYTHING is always SO FRESH! ......When I cook I draw fire. When I shop I draw mold and clogged sinks. When I order and eat at Clover I am healthy, happy...my kitchen is safe, my pipes are safe, my neighbors are safe and NYC's firefighters are assured that their next 911 is not a trivial call to my gas stove.....
