My dinner at Campagnola is probably the best dining experience that I've ever had.  They had an old school ambience with servers who are lifers.

Everything that we ordered was excellent.  The pasta, caprese salad, porterhouse, brocolli rabe...  The most incredible dish was this crispy hash brown side dish that I still drool over.

    I can't wait to return!!!

Average Italian restaurant. Stopped in for late night dinner after visiting nearby hospital. The seating area was large and quiet.  We sat in the front near the piano player.

Food was typical Italian fare. Good but as my father would say nothing to write home about.

Given the quality and extremely tasty pasta, I had to remind myself, "I'm in NY, not Rome." We were seated in a table for four towards the middle section of the restaurant. Perfect location for watching the activity and feeling the exciting Friday night vibe. Prior to our NY trip, we booked several restaurants, however, wanting to be flexible and not certain where we'd be touring, we enjoyed other NY server recommendations. Campagnola's was recommended by the GM at Bobby Van's Broad St. restaurant location. He said, "Look up Frankie D and Sal at Campagnola's." Really, it was out of the Godfather movie with those names. To our fortune and enjoyment, both Frankie D and Sal were working when we dined the next evening. The concierge helped with reservations. Our server, Nikola, was outstanding. Great personality and engaged us with light-hearted conversation recommending a Montepulciano wine and pastas for appetizers. Penne pasta in a light tomato and bechamel sauce, cheese ravioli in creamy white sauce, and a tasting of pesto gnocchi. Simply delicious, melt in your mouth al dente pasta. They know how to cook pasta and creamy sauces. God forbid, they were actually served steaming hot, too. Now that seems to be unusual these days in restaurants. Serving food hot. Their chefs were right on and tops in my ratings. Our friends split a fresh and carved up delicious fish. I had to enjoy a full plate of the rich and creamy cheese ravioli and my husband ordered the pesto gnocchi. We are pasta freaks. Too full for dessert, how did we ever clean the plate of NY "to die" for cheese cake and a light and delicious Napoleon complimentary from our server. The entire Campagnola experience was a NY highlight. Let's return next year, or, better yet, "Frankie D, could you open a restaurant in SF, please."

I was excited coming here after hearing so many good things. unfortunately it failed miserably. The atmosphere was was great and the service was fine. The food on the other hand was nothing above average even more so when I have had many better dishes out on Long Island. What really left me upset was the Chicken parm, I would bet my first born it was already breaded and frozen. I went here last week and whats so sad is while writing this review I have completely forgot what I ate...and i ate ALOT! all I keep thinking about was that 1 cutlet I had which wasn't even my main meal.  I think i ate lamb chops and steak....Both very good. The lamb chop had some nice grizzle and lightly breaded.

My boss who im falling in love with after all the awesome eatery's hes taking me to acknowledged it might be an "off" night for Campagnolas.

My dessert was fantastic..different Gelato's stuffed in the fruit they belonged too.  Light Neapolitan cake was great but Again seen and done better(mio posto holds that title). I tasted a little fridgey taste to the cake, me not happy.

The bill rolled in $1500 for 10 people.  No Thank You.  I will play the conservative card and stick with what I know is good and reasonably priced in the city. I shall return and hopefully it will deliver to the standard my olive sweating ass is on.

"Oh Campagnola of old how I miss thee, why can't it be like it used to be?" (The attitude remains though!) 'Nuff said.

I still remember my first time to this restaurant, Spring Break 2003. This was my first trip to Manhattan, I was with my parents as my dad had just started a new job in the city. I have also been here many times on Christmas Eve. Ever since my first visit, I try to make it here every time I visit Manhattan. Most recently in October 2012, my bf brought me here after going to an opera at the Met. Here are the specifics and why I love to dine here:

Location: Upper East Side Manhattan, less tourists and upscale

Atmosphere: When you first enter there is a grand piano that is almost always being played, which sets a wonderfully romantic tone. The authentic Italian managers, staff, and patrons top off the experience. Many corporate leaders, whom I will not call out by name dine here regularly. The tables and seating are roomy as far as NYC standards go. The restaurant is small overall, so please make a reservation. Even for late night dining, the last seating is at 11pm on weeknights (perfect after enjoying the arts scene in the city). This place is great to visit with family or have a romantic dinner for two.

Staff: The manager has stopped by to check on me every time I have been here. That level of detail is hard to come by in restaurants nowadays; however, I think it is fabulous.

Food: As soon as you sit, there is rustic bread and olive oil placed on the table, as well as, olives and large pieces of parmesan. My father and I get the same dish every time, Tortellini alla panna. It is simple, hearty, and mouth watering. However, I have been with several people that have ordered many other wonderful dishes on the menu.

    Enjoy

Campagnola is a great place. Not too loud, great decor and atmosphere, good service, excellent food. It's a little pricy, and the owner of the restaurant is a little pushy, but other than that, we had a great time. I actually brought my kids in there, and even though it isn't the most kid-friendly of restaurants, the staff offered great food suggestions that they loved, and the owner had a really good time with them. Visit Campagnola! :)

Full disclosure:  I rarely get jazzed about eating out for Italian.

Unfortunately the menu doesn't do any favors to get you excited.  Pretty much all the traditional southern Italian you'd expect and can get at your neighborhood spot.

Found pretty much everything unremarkable including the parmesan reggiano & salumi plate, calamari, and a fairly average Sea Bass in spicy arrabiata sauce.  Sea Bass is pretty much the best piece of protein in the world and its pretty hard to f* it up...the sauce definitely distracted and the fish was not at peak freshness.

Like much of this part of town...not much substance to back up the pomp & circumstance.  Every archetype is here form the banker to the widower, the wanna be Soprano, to some potentially real Sopranos.   Normally would have just had enjoyed a good time out with friends & colleagues.  But for New York and at these prices, found it fairly laughable.

Warm festive atmosphere, clearly a popular family spot, good attentive service.
My chicken special (chicken breast topped with eggplant and mozzarella) was good. One of us ordered veal stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto. It was so salty that it was practically inedible. When we pointed this out, we were informed that 'that is just how it is'. Wish they'd taken the trouble to point this out when we were placing the order.

Apparently Andre Agassi's favorite Italian place in New York. It's a casual Italian place that is good for family gatherings. The food was more casual, homey Italian and tasted good. But the cheese and salt are a little over the top for some of the dishes. Also, the service is a little over the top to the point where the waiter makes you feel a bit uncomfortable.

I came here thinking it may be my 4 yr old daughters last meal, no one knew, the service was incredible, the food was better and the friends I made will last a lifetime!  The next night I was introduced by chance to the managers and they remembered us!      I came back 2 days after valentines to celebrate my daughters life, caver free and thriving! Veal chop amazing, oysters fresh as I found in the city, I eat oysters everywhere, and the 3rd trip on 7 days, whole fish tasted like it was fresh out the North Sea! My wife had the chicken parm that made Every dish I had in Italy look like it was for the table, I mean it was more than anyone could finish and fantastic! When u sit u will be served w fresh bread, olives, and some Italian meat that will make u drool on Gotti's grandma, no pun intended! I'm from Texas and they made me feel like the Godfather! Not to mention Frankie made me cry with the most beautiful piano music i have ever heard! If u don't want to meet celebrities don't Go here cuz u might run into Elton John, Billy Joel, Meg Ryan, Super Bowl coaches or me! I give this place my highest rating ever! I have never felt so welcome! They made my daughter who is now cancer free after surgery eggs, not on the menu btw and the best ice cream dish she or I have ever had!  If there is better Italian in NYC, I am not interested! Campagnola will forever be a part of my families visit to NY!
Thank you Frankie D, Sal L, Trejan and the rest of the staff for an unforgettable experience!!!!!!!!!  The Clark's

We just went to campagnolas for the first time. The food was amazing. It was the best Italian I have ever had. The service left something to be desired. Just don't come here if you are in a hurry. The bartender and our waiter would just leave the restaurant and no one knew where they were. Even with the poor service I will be back. The food was that good.
