New York, NYThis new American Eagle Outfitters on West 34th Street is the BEST of their stores in New York. Staff are super friendly and the store is a really comfortable shopping environment. I love their styles for both men and women. -

AE clothes are pretty good. Staff is sorta helpful. Downstairs are for guys. Upstairs are for Women.
UPDATE:
-They are currently CLOSED for renovation and will be opening back again in Aug 2013.
PROS:
- there are sales sometimes e.g. 40% off
- clothing mostly for teens/ young adult
- easy returns unlike forever 21 where they will only issue a storecard back.
- quality of clothes are pretty good compared to Forever21 and H&M.
CONS:
- checkout line takes forever. they are kind of slow. I can be kind of impatient as I only have an hr lunch break, so if I shop for 30 minutes and it takes more than 10 minutes to check out I'm irritated as I have to get back before lunch break is over. -

Manhattan, NYThe staff here were REALLY helpful and REALLY nice. Perhaps they were overstaffed when I went in on a Tuesday afternoon, but I was impressed. I really don't like shopping at stores like AE because I'm generally uncomfortable in those type of stores (just a weird personal thing). But the people working at this AE store were so friendly and helpful that I enjoyed shopping here.
Prices are standard AE prices: a bit on the pricier end for this "crowd" of clothing lines, but by far some of the nicer made clothes. H&M across the street offers significantly cheaper clothes at a cost of lesser quality items (definitely check the seams and buttons at H&M; all buttons and seams at AE are likely to be perfect thanks to quality control). AE is also much tidier, neat, and controlled that H&M, which makes their shopping experience so much better.
I would have given this store a 5-star rating, but the music was ridiculously loud, especially right over the registers. This was really annoying. -

East Bay, CAI'm not generally a fan of AE anymore. I think I'm outgrowing their style and their clothes. Yay for developing a personal sense of style!
But I was dying for a specific chambray shirt from here. So I made a pit stop since my purchase was going to be for sure tax free. YAY!
The bad thing about its location though is that there are hella tourists and they take forever and buy hella stuff. When I was there I was first in line for awhile because people were taking forever and there were only 2 cashiers. A worker probably my impatient demeanor and my inability to stop tapping my foot in annoyance so he opened up a new register and helped me out. Brownie points for him! -

Yikes, I'm on a 2-star review rampage lately! I need to go back to American Craft in Boston or Voza in Manhattan, or I need a hug. The only reason it's not a 1-star review is because I only give those out if you've really managed to piss me off, and that didn't happen here.
Anyway, I wandered in here during my lunch break since it's close to my office and I received a $50 gift card to AE because of my debit card's ultimate rewards program. I'd been scouting out some clothes online that I might be interested and decided to go see what they look like in the store.
Well, lets just say that I'm not a fan of this whole "jeggings" nonsense. Why? A) "Jegging" is not a word, and B) jeggings are not real pants.
So why does this matter at the 34th street location? Well, this store decides to devote itself almost exclusively to whatever the current trend is, which happens to be these stupid jegging things. Thus, for people like me who prefer a normal pair of jeans, there's literally nothing to browse for. No back stock. Nothing. I walked the entire top floor where the women's clothes are located and did not find a single thing I'd be remotely interested in, and AE is one of my favorite clothing lines because the jeans (when they're not "jeggings") are actually made of a real jean material and the shirts are long and skinny enough to fit me properly.
On the way out I was stopped by no less than 3 employees asking me why I hadn't found anything to buy, and literally accosted by 2 more employees standing between me and the exit. Maybe they sensed that I had hot coffee in my hand and wasn't afraid to use it, but they let me go after a 30 second exchange with me saying "no, not today" and "no thanks" to their pleas.
Ugh, I prefer the Union Square one by a long shot. I've never found anything I want to buy at the 34th street location. Not once. -

From the time I walked in, to the time I left, I think i was greeted with a smile and a "welcome" 5 times (ooh, I feel so loved *-*).
The store merchandise is always organized and in place and I was actually able to find some clearance aerie items that was sold out online in the store (it was not-so-secretly tucked away in a drawer)! Yay! I was so happy about that (and I didn't even need to pay shipping either). -

ASTORIA, NYOk besides the fact that I am not a fan of the Madison Square Garden area anyway, the Union Square store is far better stocked and organized.
American Eagle is one of my favorite places to shop. They have all around good clothes, undergarments, and shoes...that all seem to fit me like they're supposed to. It makes for one happy shopper. I also particularly enjoy that as a brand they make almost every type of pant in a size long, which helps with my legs (most other clothing brands tend to make me look like I've put my pants in the dryer one too many times...high waters much?)
Hence my disappointment when I came to this particular branch of the store and their stock was disorganized, their selection minimal, and their staff absent. It might have just been the day, but it definitely did not put me in the mood to shop there! I left very soon after arriving and fled to Union Square...where I was able to find what I was looking for. Phew! -
