Gracious Home

This is a big store in Upper East Side that offers everything for the Gracious Home

Wonder what Yelpers think--well, as usual, mixed. Some say just great and others really unhappy

Has what you need when you need it...and if they do not, they will get it for you, or cut it for you...or figure out a solution for you.  For us it's the local hardware store. We like working with the guys who have been there forever.

Terrible customer service.  Dang, that woman I talked to today, 7/10/13, about pricing some roller blinds for my windows was extremely unpleasant.  It was like pulling teeth!

I even gave them a second chance!  See, a week earlier I went into the store on a Saturday and talked to somebody about roller blinds and they were indeed pains in the asses.  One didn't know nothin' about nothin' and the other was much too busy to help me.

Poor Gracious Homes is going out of business because I'm going to Home Depot.

Recently made the mistake of calling to see if they had any pot racks.  You know, as they have 150,000 items in stock.  I must have had the line cross and been connected to 1979 because I was informed, paraphrasing, that "it's a special order item and can take 6 - 8 weeks."

So I can see a photo of the product with specs at Amazon and have it in 2 days or I can not see it, order it from GH, and wait 6-8 weeks.

Why shouldn't Amazon be killing local stores.

    Still 1-star for Gracious Home.

This review is specifically about the paint department, although I did look briefly through the rest of the store and thought they had a rather thorough (although pricey) selection.

I just moved into a new apartment and wanted to find a new color for my bedroom. The lead of the paint department, Mo (or Moe), was EXTREMELY helpful. He knows everything about everything when it comes to paint, and was able to sit with me to sort through all the different colors I was considering, and then help me choose a final color (which I ended up loving by the way). And since I was going to paint it myself, he helped me select all the tools that I needed and gave me some tips and tricks. I'll be going back shortly to pick out a color to paint a piece of furniture I have.

I highly recommend this location for your paint needs - based on the level of knowledge and the customer service. The price wasn't bad either -- for both the paint samples or the full gallons.

I really loved the products in Gracious Home, but why is to cluttered, messy and disorganized??  The store is huge and takes up the whole block and other side of the street.  But they try to cram in way too much in the space.

Here you can find EVERYTHING for your home - kitchenware, art, paint supplies, hardware, televisions, fragrances, furniture, small home decor items, lighting, beds, etc.  We bought our Christmas tree here and it's so pretty!!  The bedding sets here are very pretty too.  I might have to come back for those.

Think Bed, Bath & Beyond, but with more and better products.

This place is a mad house on the weekends.  Come during the week after work!

Seldom have I experienced such consistent awful customer service and so much jaw-dropping incompetence. Every time I relent and give them another try they fail miserably once again. I'd be happy to go into specifics about the stupidity and laziness and apathy I've encountered but it would take too long in this forum.

What is especially galling is that when I call to speak to a manager or let someone know about the business they're losing, they really don't seem at all concerned. In this economy, when so many people are out of work, Gracious Home should make an effort to hire the right people, rain their people, and fire the grossly incompetent employees that are literally driving away business. (One example: I came in prepared to buy 3 air-consitioners; I knew what brand and size etc. The salesman said that without specific model numbers he couldn't help me at all. In other words, he wouldn't sell me any air-coniditioners unless I told him exactly the model I wanted and he could look it up on his little screen. I left and easily bought my A/Cs at a competitor nearby.)

OK, I'm probably gonna get hazed for this - and I really wanted to RAIL on Gracious home and give them 1 or 2 stars for the over-inflated snooty-snotty prices - but that alone is not why I am about to rant...

Let me introduce you to what we call the "SHAM SCAM".

Yes folks, we wanted to buy a set of pillowcases.  Nothing fancy - just some nice pillow cases.  But what the lady showed use were "Euro Shams" and I kid you not - they were over $210 for the pair.

Sorry, racious home - for plain white shams - that is a scam.

I'll be buying my Henckels knives and kitchen ware elsewhere.

    Boo-hiss.

Lot's of stuff crammed into this place. They DO have a well stocked inventory and staff that can find it with typical NY attitude. Weird light bulbs, copper polish, $600 bath spigots, funky knobs, overpriced clock-radios etc.

It's 'spensive, and you'll likely have to wait behind a 90 year old grouchy Jewish lady that voted for McCain, but that's the neighborhood.

One stop shop for the home, reasonably priced things and incredibly convenient -- that's my kind of errand!  I stop in to buy a light bulb and I walk out with a pocket knife, alarm clock, a new set of kitchen knives, and cool vacuum cleaner....

You almost can't help it -- they have those Dyson fans (the ones without blades) on display as you walk in and I am always tempted to pick one up -- but that's what's so funny, I don't even need one.  i have air conditioning!  They get you on the toaster ovens too...big selection.  OK, enough...you get the picture.

    Am I really this domesticate?

Horrible.  Terrible customer service.  In some cases prices are close to double other retail/hardware stores. Never order ANYTHING from them.  Twice I've placed orders for items not in stock and both times the orders were completely mishandled by the service reps and took months to arrive.  In one case, after 8 months and not hearing from them I simply went in, cancelled the order and was reimbursed with no apology for or even an acknowledgement of their bad handling of the situation.  Nightmare.  Stay away!  Sadly, you're better off at a Home Depot or Bed, Bath Beyond.  I try to support local businesses but I simply can't when they are thoroughly incompetent.  I'd give it no stars if I could.

I've called this place twice to ask if they had what I was looking for. Instead of actually talking to me, the customer service rep put me on hold for 10 minutes the first time and 12 minutes the second time.

Its hard to buy their hold music that says "Looking for a place where the service is as serious as the selection? Look no further!"

Guess its only "good service" if you can look in person. And based on the other reviews - probably not even then.

I came here only once because I was in the area for work to help out another location of my company.  I agree with the previous poster as there is no staff available for assistance as they are all MIA.  The home decor and other bedding are extremely pricey yet gordy patterns/designs although nice things to decorate your home.  It's a large space if patrons have the time to walk through the aisles as service is non-existent.

The customer service at Gracious Home is ATROCIOUS. They offer delivery, but don't expect a call before they deliver OR a delivery window. After telling me they would deliver on a Sunday, they claim they attempted delivery on Saturday evening (they didn't - i was here) and after assuming no one was home, returned the item to the warehouse. To track down my order by phone I was placed on hold and transferred no less than 6 times, never once receiving an apology or an answer as to how they might solve the situation. At the end, I had to go into the store and demand a refund.
It's unfortunate given how nice their merchandise is, but I will never shop at Gracious Home again.

So this is where upper east siders shop for home products and appliances. Unfortunately, their stuff are way over my budget especially their bed and bath products. It's extremely convenient for people living in the neighborhood since there is not a really close Bed Bath and Beyond store nearby...only if you can afford it.  I came here once trying to find relatively affordable pillows and the sales clerk kept showing me these down pillows that costs $200-300 each. It never occurred to me that pillows could really cost that much so I was a bit shocked when the sales clerk smugly told me the price. I politely declined but she was obviously not impressed that she couldn't get her commission for the day. But I'm sorry, I am not a wealthy UES resident and even if I am, I would never spend that much on pillows alone.

I picked up a plain stainless steel soap pump and looked at the price tag.. $260. I put it down, and slowly backed out the door- careful not to knock anything over on my way out.
