Really dug this theater! Got randomly invited to see Jesse & Joy... a pop duo that was reminiscent of a Mexican, brother-sister version of the Jonas brothers... Despite the Mexican Christian revival onstage, the screaming tweens, and a few weirdly enthusiastic middle aged black men, I had a great time! The energy in the venue is so great, I think it would be hard NOT to have fun here.
There is a big standing room area right in front of the stage and stadium seating behind/above the standing room area. The sound quality was great and the seating was comfy. The only drawback was that the bar areas were really small and it was difficult to get out of the seats to get drinks ... One of our group went down to the bar to get drinks for everyone... the bartender sent him back to tell us we had to all stand and show her our arm bands before she would serve him. Hilarious.
All in all this is a really nice, well laid out theater. It's big enough to be comfortable, but small enough to feel really intimate. can't wait to go back and hear a group that I actually like! -

Brooklyn, NYThis is a cute little place. I really like the stadium seating in the back - not that I'm generally the type to use it but I appreciate that it exists, and it's a nice touch.
One of the things I really liked was that it's easy to navigate - there's no maze of Hogwarts-esque hallways to get in or out or around like a lot of other Manhattan venues. Finding the bathroom was ridiculously easy (this is important), and when the show was over, we were outside in literally a matter of seconds.
However, I was incredibly disappointed by the sound. The headliners sounded like crap - next to no guitar (which is no good when it's a punk band) and the whole damn thing sounded muddy, fuzzy, and mid-heavy. It got a little better as the night went on, but I'm still distinctly unimpressed. The opening band's mix was pretty damned good, so I know they *can* do it, but it just didn't happen for, you know, the band we were all there to see.
However x2, the staff was super friendly, even the bouncers and door folk, and overall I was pretty happy with the experience and don't dread going back (unlike, say, Bowery Ballroom), so I'm gonna go with 4 stars as an average. If the sound is better next time, I'll be perma-sold. -

Long Beach, NYWhat does a girl like me to go to Gramercy to see? Why...RuPauls Drag Race Batlle of the Races, of course.
1. General Admission is where we were. VIP is where we will be next time. I wore heels (mistake) and stood for a good 4 hours. If I DIDN'T have heels on though, since I was surrounded by drag queens - or simply men in heels - I wouldn't be tall enough to see anything. Also, with GA - you need to claim your seat ASAP and its first come/first served, so if you don't get there with your group ahead of time, you'll either be scattered or standing.
I dont mind standing - at all - but there was a few parts of the show where the ladies were on their knees or on the stage, that we couldn't really see. Also, some of the bears on the floor were bitchy, so they would try and box you out from getting back to were we standing (probably won't happen at another type of show, and if you're wearing heels you just pump spear their feet until they drop like a bad habit)
2. It was pretty easy to get in and out, and they were smart enough to check IDs before we were inside so that saved time. They were not smart enough to get additional bartenders for the crowd. I only had a drink or two, but the line was mayhem and effn expensive
3. We got out quick, hung out front and chatted with some friends and no one bugged us, but they're apparently a "union shop" so there was NO going OT.

-Decent size dance floor with plenty of theater style seating (comfy too!)

Manhattan, NYMY first time here was to see Led Zeppelin 2, a Chicago-based tribute band. Most tix are $18 General Admission standing on the floor so there's no reason to get there early and wait on line outside. The place is small so even if you're in back you got a great spot. Unless of course you're short.
Me and my galpal got there at 8 when when the doors opened but first stopped next door at Chipotle to fill our bellies before drinking and then walked to Gramercy Park to spark a doobie.
Ladies they will look in your purses and men they will give you a gentle pat down I guess looking for weapons. So keep anything you don't want them to find in your crotch.
But what I LOVE about this place is the bar downstairs. It's so freakin' cozy with Morrocan rugs ON THE WALLS. Comfy benches and stools all over. I'd pay a $20 cover just to hang out there and listen to the bands play upstairs even if I never heard of them, which is most of the line up here. They have TV's so you can see what's going on, though the sound is not as good as being in the auditorium. And once the show starts the bar clears out.
In winter, definitely pay the extra $4 coat check fee as you don't want to be carrying it around -

I've only been here once, and it was for a taping of a comedy show. The crowd control here makes me wonder what a concert would be like.
The line stretched around the block for those of us with tickets. After a bag search, and then an ID check, we were allowed in. It took about a half hour, but it seemed like hours, since we were standing in the freezing cold!
The comedy show was general admission, so we just went ahead and sat wherever. There were two bars on the either side of the main floor, and both had long lines. The reason? There were lots of thirsty patrons, and only one bartender at each bar. I know there was a bar downstairs, but looking at the prices, I had no interest in any of the bars anywhere in that venue.
The show was fine, and it appears to be that you'd have a good view of the stage from anywhere in the venue. It's a really small place, actually, so it made me wonder what it'd be like during a concert.
I had to use the bathroom before leaving, and that was a whole other debacle. The bathroom is down a flight of stairs, so the line snakes from the small bathroom all the way up this teeny, narrow staircase. I ended up in this weird caddy-corner bathroom, but I guess they had to make more stalls where there were none!
As of now, I'm undecided on the venue. I'd love to come back for a concert to see what it's like then! -

This is my new favorite venue in NYC. It's large enough for big acts but small enough where you can still hang out in the lounge and order a beer. It almost feels like a dive bar. Upstairs in the main stage area there are two bars as well so you don't have to leave the music for a drink! There are screens in the downstairs lounge that show you the stage so you know what you're missing. Definitely going back. Oh yeah, and get the floor tickets if you want to be close to the stage. The seating is behind the floor standing area and is a lot father back. Really fun venue! We saw Les Claypool's Duo De Twang last week. -

Brooklyn, NYI went here last weekend to see Dita Von Teese Strip Strip Hooray. Gramercy Theatre is located on E 23rd st and parking is not so bad in this area. We were able to find a spot a block away.
we arrived at 8ish, show was supposed to start 7:30. We walked rite in, our tickets were waiting for us at the box office. they id'ed my honey but forgot about me, lucky i wasn't the one buying drinks that night because you had to have a wrist band to get anything from the bar. Since the guy forgot to id me, i didn't have one. We bought our tickets for "standing room only", all seats were sold out.
they have a coat check ($3), and a bar downstairs. Theatre was pretty big, they had 2 bars, one on each side. Its was pretty crowded and I'm pretty short so i couldn't see the stage over the crowd. I found a spot on the steps that led to the seats, and then i could see over the crowd. I was standing next to a female employee who was checking peoples tickets. she said it was fine i stood there as long as i left room for people to go up and down. then there was this male heavy set employee that kept going up and down the stairs and screaming "don't block the stairs folks". He would viciously bump into me after saying excuse me. At one point he pushed me so bad i look behind me to look at him and he was standing directly behind me, turns out he was urgently going to stand on that step to get a better look at Dita about to unveil her goodies. that was pretty annoying but the show was so good, he was easily forgotten.
It was really crowded, so it got really hot. Mind you EVERYONE was drinking in there. They should have more seats, and less standing area. Drinks were okay, but 12 bucks, alil much for me being that we also paid for 2 tickets. We drank, but not too much, we had plans to meet up with friends at a lounge after wards.
Overall Gramercy Theatre is pretty cool, tickets were a pretty good price and I'm sure that's because this Theatre is not that fancy, so i cant complain about that!....lol -

Gramercy Theatre is made for short people....Like yours truly.
First off, the theatre is extremely easy to get you. You have your choice of the N, R, or 6 train. Security is pretty good about getting everyone inside in time to see the show. Do they check your bags? Yes. Do they do a thorough inspection like others have complained about? No. Once you're inside, there is an employee with wristbands if you'll be drinking. This helps the process of getting inside in time since no one is slowing down the door by asking for ID prior to seeing your ticket. The front area is tiny and only has coat check, the ladies room (to the right), the mens room (to the left) and a staircase leading downstairs to another bar and the merch tables.
Behind the double-doors is the actual theatre. The floor is small but surprisingly fits a ton of people. Upstairs there is stadium-like seating. They usually offer more of these, however, for the show I attended they only had the VIP section open. The cool part of the upstairs area is that you get a full view of the stage and the floor beneath you. There are two small bars on either side of the floor, which is good if you're let's say on the left and need a drink but don't want to cut through the crowd to the other side. I heard drinks are expensive so I stayed away and can't weigh in on that one.
The acoustics are only so-so and the main reason as to why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. They're not terrible, by any means, but they're not great either. And it was ice cold! I get that it's August and it's NYC but come on. After the show, I went downstairs to the merch area and found a whole separate little party going on. They have the audio of the concert upstairs playing while you're down there. The merch is kind of pushed off to the side of the downstairs bar. The bathrooms are also extremely clean, considering it's a music venue. I would definitely see another show here. -

Yonkers, NYGreat energy, bands and crowd! I actually prefer this venue to Irving Plaza because not only do they have seating, its easier to meet band members afterwards. I recommend investing in ear plugs - it may be "metal" to have your ears ringing for days but its better than going deaf! -

It's about as good a venue as you can get for a small club show.
The slight incline allows for good views from the back of the crowd but you don't feel like your standing on a hill. There is also seating in the back for those looking for a relaxed experience. The sound is good. -

Warwick, NYAbsolutely my favorite NYC venue (and I hate going to the city for anything!) It's clean, small, well designed, has a seating area (in addition to general admission "standing area"), nice bar area, bathrooms are good, set changes are done very quickly. Drinks are stiff and not too overpriced. Concerts - at least the one I went too, didn't run "too long" . Parking is tricky, but hey, it is NYC, get there early and park in a garage or take mass transit.
Since having been there for a Turisas concert (metal show) earlier this year, I instantly fell in love with this place and now I keep an eye out for any upcoming events at this venue.
Highly recommended. All venues should aspire to the greatness of the Gramercy Theater!!!
