Cole Haan

Wonder if this store still has its cachet...

Cole Haan has a couple of locations and I would say this one comes in about the middle..people like the one downtown better

I had no problems with a return of recently bought shoes. I'm very pleased with the customer service. So far, so good!

As a reviewer already said, Cole Haan exudes cool. I'm a big, big fan.

But I can't help but think that their midtown flagship store could be a little cooler itself. The environment's a little sterile and spread out. The service struck me as kind of unhelpful and distant -- I'm not sure I'd trust them with style advice. The decorations are sparse, which puts the attention on the shoes themselves. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves the place falling kind of flat, a missed opportunity for the store to be a real ambassador for the brand.

Maybe I'm a downtown guy whose been spoiled by super attentive downtown shopping experiences with decorative flourishes to boot (see: J. Crew men's shop, SoHo) - -but I think this location could stand to learn a thing or two from those.

I used to like Cole Haan shoes (though tend to be overpriced for the quality).

Recently, I stopped by this store and was ready to buy a pair of shoes I had seen and tried on previously. The salesman could have cared less what I wanted and told me to try on the size that was already on the floor as it was 1/2 size smaller than my size even though I told him it was too small. He seemed rather annoyed that he had to have someone get the correct size. Oh well, one salesperson doesn't make a whole store.

But when I started looking at other shoes that were on the shelves, 2 other employees were leaning against the ones I was looking at and refused to move even though I was obviously trying to look at some other shoes.

I decided not to purchase the shoes I came in for, nor will I ever go back to this store or even purchase Cole Haan. It made me realize, that the quality for the money of the shoes is not worth it. So, in that respect, thank you to the sales people after all

LOVE THIS LOCATION. The manager is GREAT and knows customer service better than any other brand/location I've been to.

    Shop here.

Cole-Haan exudes cool.  This particular store located right on 5th Ave. is the mothership of them all, and you'll find things in here you might not at other locations.  Unfortunately, my inner geek finds no peace here (nudging me to watch reruns of Star Trek Next Generation), but thankfully my cool side wins out on this one, and I depart with accoutrements to satisfy the id...kind of like the evil Kirk come to think of it...

How is it possible that no one has written a review for any of the three Cole Haan locations in Manhattan???  I love Cole Haan shoes -- They are stylish, well-made & great for people who can't live in heels.

That said, I can only give this location three stars because:

    1) Its proximity to Rockefeller Center means too many tourists.
    2) The lighting is too dim -- Makes me feel like I have to adjust the brightness setting in my eyes...  But I can't.

Thus, I usually shop in the branch located in Columbus Circle...  Which I review in greater detail here:

I happen to love a pair of Cole Haan loafers I picked up a while back (they have a pink lining!) but that purchase was probably the last thing I bought at Cole Haan.  Their prices are ridiculous; $300 for a pair of COLE HAAN high heels?  I don't see how anyone can justify spending that much for a pair of shoes by a company that's owned by Nike.

The Rockefeller location doesn't have a great selection, especially for women's shoes, but they do have a good selection of clothing (if you like Cole Haan clothing).

Some people bristle at the fact that the Cole Haan brand is owned by Nike.  Hello?  Can you say amazing shoe brand?  Cole Haan doesn't expect us to RUN in these things, but why not take the principles behind good shoe design and innovations in comfort (which Nike's developed) and apply them to something that looks terrific and is made out of great stuff?  It makes PERFECT sense to me.

Like any Cole Haan store, the service is top-notch, the quality is impeccable, the variety is strong, and the price, while higher than you might like initially, is always worth it in the long run.

Some nice attache cases/brief cases for men, and a great selection of casual shoes (the more formal stuff has less variety, but is still very good).

Best time to go:  Saturdays before noon.
