City Crab and Seafood (Steaks too it says)

Again, another  review site likes this better than Yelp does, but I usually go with Yelp, you might as well here all the people who are so pissed off, like one man here who says he "never had a worse dinner in my life'"--most people liked it a lot better than that

As an attempt to find some reasonably priced seafood, I came here for restaurant week with some friends- and I was pleasantly surprised.

    1) this place is huge (tons of seating upstairs, and a second bar)
    2) our waitress was very attentive, she even went to the kitchen and asked about a few ingredients for me
    3) I ordered the lobster entree as part of the restaurant week special. I was expecting a little pit of lobster with a side of potatos/carrots/etc, but was estatic when a very large lobster wrapped in a net bag arrived. Basically, every side that came with the entree (mussels, clams, carrots, etc) were all steamed together as one entity. It made for a very fun experience opening the bag and watching all of the food spill out- I needed a bigger plate!

Overall, I liked this place. Although I didn't order off of it, the main menu was very expansive and reasonably priced for seafood- I'll be back to try it out.

I went last Friday and met two friends for dinner.  I had a big business lunch that day at The Palm, so I was not too hungry.

Each of my friends had a lobster, which was cooked to their approval.  They started with clam steamers, which looked good.  I shared two small apps.  The lobster mac and cheese was very good as was the buffalo shrimp, complete with a blue cheese dipping sauce.

I have been here a few times.  Had a business dinner here about 12 years ago, and the place has remained consistent.  Our waitress was excellent.   Very friendly and attentive with a great smile.

After dinner, we went for a nice walk around Gramarcy Park and checked out the local architecture.  Even us local New Yorkers should take some time to appreciate some of the beautiful areas of our city, and I recommend taking a nice walk around Irving Plaza to all one day.

    Review for RW2013 dinner

Appetizer : The bread tasted awful.Don't get Gazpacho soup. It was super cold and tasted weird. I didn't finish more than half of it. Mussels were decent.

Entree: Lobster was a good size!!! It tasted wonderful! I love the combination on seafood and veggies (lobster, mussels, clams, corn, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions). I dipped my lobster in tabasco sauce and corn in ranch and butter. IT WAS WONDERFUL. I wish they gave us gloves to work on lobster though.
For salmon, it wasn't as amazing as Park Ave Restaurant. The asparagus was a bit overly cooked (tasted bitter).

Dessert: Molten Chocolate Cake was so good! It was warm and chocolately. Pretty sweet. If you don't want sweet, get Key Lime Pie! It tasted a little bit like lime but a bit sweet. It was amazing. Cheese Cake has no cake feel. It was like cream. (Some people like their cheesecake super soft. Personally,I enjoy cake tasting like cake).

My boyfriend & I dined her during the summer, and had steak & Lobster off course. We both enjoyed the quiet but very modest location & ambiance of the restaurant, but mostly the food. We wanted to sit upstairs overlooking the grown floor, but we didn't make reservations in advance & that area was designated as reserved seating. You also have the choice of picking your lobster as you come in. There's a giant fish tank with fresh lobsters to choose from in the waiting section. My lobster was so tender and well seasoned, not to mention HUGE:). I myself am a seafood lover, shellfish especially but my man.. Not so much (allergy). He picked the spot for me, took me and I loved it! I kid you not... Even with a shellfish allergy, he couldn't help himself but sample a few pieces of my lobster, yup.. That's how good it was.  Just an FYI.. This is a $$$$$ spot.
    • Good for defending yourself & eating.. Best of both worlds …
    • I was in heaven.. 40 pounder!

Be on a lookout for the holiday gift certificates. They often sell their gift cards for 50% off - makes it a good place to go to for the price.

I was not please with this place.

My friend and I were so excited to try this place, especially since it is Restaurant Week (nom nom nom); however, MUCH was left to be desired.

The service was INCREDIBALY slow. When we first arrived, our waiter came to our table and told us the specials of the evening, etc then walks away. My cousin steps to the ladies room briefly and the waitress comes back asking for the order. I told her I would wait until my friend, as I think this is common courtesy. The waitress, on the other hand, did not and told me I had strong will power to wait. HUH?

Well, my friend comes back, and it took the waitress another 10 minutes to come back. What made it worst was she was serving the tables around us, so she could  not miss we were sitting there...waiting. Finally, she came over and took our order.

We received our appetizers - my friend had the mussels, and I had the salad. Both were SOO SALTY!! YIKES!! I had to drink water to wash the salt down. Mehh...

I also ordered clams. Well, since they were raw, I thought they would come out fast - NEGATIVE! We finished the appetizers, had our plates cleared, and still had to wait for the clams...seriously! They are raw - no cooking required.

Finally, we received the clams. They were actually good and the reason why I gave this place two stars.

Finally we received our Lobster Bake - NO SEASONING WHATSOEVER. Blah!
Then dessert, the Chocolate Molton Cake which took forever to come out, was not baked throrougly.

Finally, when I came to the restaurant and checked in via Yelp, I received a coupon saying there were 50% off drinks Mon-Thurs from 4-7pm. I showed the waitress this and she wasn't sure and would check with the manager - I am STILL waiting for the manager to come over.

    I will not be back.

Came here for restaurant week with a large group and had a great experience. I was really surprised how huge the space was. Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.

I had the mussels as an appetizer, and they were delicious - I could have eaten a whole pot! The crab cake sandwich was full of crab and light on bread crumb stuffing, so you get lots of bang for your buck. My only complaint would be that the fries were billed as "Old Bay seasoned fries" and there was no seasoning to be found. I loved the tartness of the key lime pie, and the crust was perfect. Overall, portions were very generous.

I'll probably be back to try some other items on the menu. Overall, a really solid seafood place.

I went with a small group of people for restaurant week.

Service: Our server was so sweet and very attentive even though they were clearly busy. The food and drinks came very quickly. I asked another waitress a question (who was not dedicated to our table) and she was very detailed and polite.

Food: Overall the food was good. For appetizers my boyfriend ordered the Gazpacho and I regretted not ordering it. It was fantastic, super creamy and the lotus chips were a nice touch. I ordered the mussels of which about half were empty :( It had the potential to be a good appetizer but I didn't have the full opportunity. I ordered the Lobster Bake and it was spectacular. You really can't go wrong with steamed lobster, mussels and clams. There was no seasoning or anything on the shellfish but I prefer it that way. They served the butter on the side. We had key lime pie for dessert and it was amazing - not too sweet and the graham cracker crust was perfection.

The menu was not very risky - very classic seafood dishes. Not a bad thing if you can appreciate it and you go into it expecting it.

Definitely the worst dinner I've ever had.

The mussels appetizer was way too salty.  The clam bake was just awful.  The lobster was soggy and cold and the mussels had no flavor.  The potatoes weren't even fully cooked.

I will never recommend this place to anyone.  It was a complete was of money.

Seafood and happy hour makes such a great combination! Spur of the moment decision to do a happy hour led to the discovery of this awesome place. The staff is attentive, the restaurant is huge, the alcohol is reasonably priced, and the food is note worthy.

    Lobster Mac & Cheese - 3.5/5
    Calamari - 3/5

You could probably find other seafood restaurants that have better dishes, but the fact that they had happy hour on a Saturday and had great prices for drinks, it's definitely worth coming back for happy hour!
