Tonic

Well, you really can't miss this place on Third Avenue in Kips Bay.

Another place that has been around for some time, though I think they just added their roof garden a couple of years ago.

Let us see what people say...Not suprisingly, they are divided as usual!

Stopped in for an hour to say Hello to some friends from OT who chose this spot to watch the playoffs. Place was cool better than what I expected but I don't play too much on this side of town and I wasn't expecting much.

My friends were sitting on the rooftop. Place looks like it would be good for groups. I'm just jaded.

Step inside of this bar and you will meet everyone and their mother, and their gel haired friends from Jersey. When you aren't being shoulder checked by a completely wasted banker on his third Bud Light, you are having his moccasin wearing friends from Connecticut spilling their drinks on you.

Watch out for the brofest conglomerations during Rihanna songs, it can get pretty wild. They have around ten beers on tap at ground level, each for seven bucks on weekends. So if you didn't know that, you'd pay the same price for a Sam adams urine brew as you would for a Shock Top with an orange slice.

Once you had enough of the glares from the crows swaying their heads and shooting you dirty looks at the bar counter at the ground level, you move onto the second level where you'll immediately feel yourself dying on the inside as your worst enemy's Top 40 playlist assaults your bleeding ears. Don't worry, you won't have to stay in this Satan's Lair for long, as you can move on level up to the rooftop.

At this stage, you may feel inclined to hop right over and end your life on the sidewalks of 3rd Avenue. The drinks aren't well made, the people have as much personality as the excel files they saved a few hours before they arrived, and you are only steps away from disaster. Go down and exit immediately before you turn into one of them. You have been warned, my friend.

A BAR CALLED TONIC IS OUT OF TONIC, literally.

I am giving this place a star for the little view that they have on the rooftop terrace. That seems to be the only good thing they have going for them. Here is a list of things I hate about this place:
    1. The food was NOT GOOD. I don't have high expectations for bar food, Usually after a few drinks I couldn't care less what the food tastes like. But this is bad, and no amount of drinks can make me overlook that fact that their burger tastes like cardboard, and the cajun fries only have a tiny bit of seasoning on them, and they are waaaay too soft for my liking. It was very obvious that they did not put time into making the food.
    2. The drinks are TERRIBLE. Went there for happy hour, after finding out that the happy hour deal is FIRST FLOOR ONLY. I chose to stay on the rooftop because it was just too nice out. There is a $8 frozen margarita special on the rooftop so me and my friend ordered that. It was the worst frozen margarita I've ever had. There was probably a drop of tequila mixed with cheapest margarita mix. Anyways, I decided to try a gin and tonic in hopes that their mix drinks would taste better, but they are OUT OF TONIC. So she made me a gin and soda. Just when I thought the margarita was the worst drink I've ever had, I took a sip of my new drink.
    3. Oh boy, do the girl bartender on the first floor have an attitude. I understand that she hates her life, her job and the way she looks but I didn't come here so I can pay her to treat me like shit. The bartender on the rooftop has ZERO clue of what the specials are, neither does she know how to make a drink, or anything else that is going on besides what her text says.

This place has so much space and potential to be a hot spot, hate when this happens. Never going there again and wouldn't recommend anyone to go.

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews, but when I visited I enjoyed it! The drinks were good as well as the music and food. I really enjoyed myself!

I am giving Tonic four stars for two reasons.

    1. Free drinks for ladies from 8-9 on Wednesday.
    2. Michael the Bouncer has bought me nachos at 7-11 twice.

I've never been here after 9 PM or before 3 AM, so I don't know what it's like if there's ever more than 16 people there. Maybe one day I'll find out. Until then, I will continue to start and end my nights here, and hope for free food.

I probably went on a bad night but it was 2 empty floors of head pounding overly loud music. My jack and coke was $8 that could've used more jack.  Head to Mercury bar instead!

I went to a NYCares event here.  Yea I volunteer, I have a social conscious, there is more to me than food and drinks...no not really...but anyway....

I didn't get to see the rooftop lounge but I do remember some yummy sliders, awesome wings and perfect calamari.

My review seems to be a little better than the others. I'm not sure if it is because I'm a recent implant to NYC and the rooftop bar scene or the fact that this was the fourth place I'd been to indulging in spirits that evening. Thinking back on it, the food could not have been anymore regular. And then the drinks there by that point, were just drinks.

The place was very crowded and to be honest I didn't notice the female/male ratio as I was only focused on females.

Oh yeah, there were televisions, televisions everywhere.

To morale of my visit to Tonic East, alcohol is a helluva a drug.

Hopefully after visiting Tonic East again, I will enjoy that visit as well. I'm just not sure if I have to have indulged in more spirits before arriving. I mean, I might be over the roof thing by now.
