That is still the 59th Street Bridge, Folks

As in the case of Sixth Avenue ( the alleged "Avenue of the Americas"), the official name for this bridge and what people call it have nothing in common.

Simon and Garfunkel knew that when they wrote their "59th Street Bridge" song long ago..

Even the radio traffic reports do not use this pompous official name with the silly hommage to the controversial Mayor Ed Koch. 

Most New Yorkers today cannot remember anything Koch ever did that significantly changed the City for the better...as I remember, he was a master of excuses why "the system" was always foiling his attempts to improve life in the City. In his second term, scandals brought down tons of his appointees...nobody ever accused him of being personally dishonest...He just appointed these people because as is so often the case they had been big donors to  his election campaign.
