50 FFs HOSPITALIZED AFTER FIRE IN VIET NAM

Monday, November 30, 2015   More than 50 firefighters were hospitalised after an operation to extinguish a blaze at Nam Hai Port, an official of the Fire Fighting and Prevention Department of Hai Phong said.Initial results showed that soldiers had inhaled the toxic phosphorus fumes, and were suffering manifestations of respiratory failure, Brigadier Le Quoc Tran, director of the department said yesterday.

WIDE SPREAD CHEATING AT CAL-FIRE FIRE ACADEMY

Sunday, November 29, 2015   For more than an hour in August 2014, Shannon Browne sat with investigators at CHP’s Valley Division office in Sacramento, at first hesitant, then growing more confident as she laid out her concerns. Instructors were manipulating scores on tests at Cal Fire’s firefighting academy in Ione, she told the officers.Browne, who writes test materials for academy cadets and records the scores, said that until earlier that year instructors routinely threw out results for questions that some cadets couldn’t answer. She said they repeatedly told her and other staff to add points to the scores of cadets to compensate. Browne estimated the changes probably affected scores on half the tests in recent years.

The orders, she told CHP Sgt. Daniel Webb and Lt. Ezery Beauchamp, made her uncomfortable because she believed they were wrong.

“Instead of saying, ‘Hey, we’re not teaching this correctly,’ and keeping (the questions) ... they were just passing students,” ... [ more ]

HAS YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT EVER EXPERIENCED A LINE OF DUTY DEATH? EVER? Please See Below

Thursday, November 26, 2015    We wanted to make YOU aware of the FFCC / Line of Duty Calendar Project. The goal is to create a single point of reference of fire service LODD and serious LODI events. Every name on the calendar is an opportunity to remember, reflect, and learn. In the wake of a loss it is an opportunity to train ourselves to be better and work to prevent future LODD / LODI events. By organizing these events in a calendar format we have the opportunity to make every day about training while not forgetting those who served us. There is no limitation on how far back the calendar can reach.

The initial efforts have focused on the United States and US Armed Forces but I'd like to gradually expand to North America and then perhaps globally.
