Solar System Victorian Closes at $2.674M, Less Than Asking
The Victorian at 956 S. Van Ness Ave. is known for its murals (including a rendering of the solar system on the garage) has sold for $2.674 million, that's a little less than the $2.995 million the owners sought when it went on the market in late October. For people following the sale, the first question that comes to mind is: Will the new owners keep the eye-popping murals?
Cow Hollow Home Sells for $5.995M, $1M More Than Last Year
With all of the recent rumblings about the slowing down of the super-hot San Francisco luxury market, we wondered how the four-bedroom home at 2374 Greenwich Avenue would fare when it hit the market at the beginning of November. The home had sold just last year for $4.9995 million, but its tech exec owner quickly decided to move on to a Tiburon estate and put it back on the market for $5.495 million. The ask was a jump of about half a million in a year. The luxury market must not be dead yet, because not only did the place go into contract in just five days, it sold for $5.995 million. Yes, that's nearly a million more than last year even though the house underwent few changes in that time.
Spiked Baseball Bats Puzzle SF Residents and Police

Christmas decorations weren't the only things going up around the city this holiday weekend. Police told Hoodline that as many as 27 spiked baseball bats have mysteriously appeared around the city, each one chained to a parking meter or a sign pole. The strange happening has people wondering: Is it art or...something else? No one seems to know exactly what (if anything) to make of it.

Santa's sleigh is said to have eight tiny reindeer, but until January 3, the California Academy of Sciences will have two large ones: Frosty and Holiday. The reindeer duo landed there yesterday to much fanfare.The viewing of caribou at Cal Academy is something of a holiday tradition for many in the Bay Area. We asked the elves at natural history museum some burning reindeer questions.
No Longfin Smelt Were Harmed in the Old Bay Bridge Blast

Looking at video of the event, it's hard to believe, but Caltrans officials told Bay Area media that no endangered longfin smelt were injured (or worse) in the implosion of a large pier from the old Bay Bridge on November 14. A Caltrans spokesperson told the San Francisco Chroniclethat although they are waiting for a full report, it appears all of the three-inch fish came out of the incident unscathed.

Palo Alto Trailer Park Owners and City Headed for Court

The owners of Buena Vista Moblie Home Park, the 400 residents on the site, and the city of Palo Alto are locked in a dispute that has landed in federal court, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. It boils down to this: The owners (Tim and Eva Jisser) want to sell the site. The city is requiring them to pay a relocation fee of about $20,000 apiece to the occupants. That works out to $8 million, a fee the owners say is too high.

An SF Property Owner Who Put Community Before Big Profits

The magazine reports that when Catherine Lee, a long-time resident of SF's Mission District, sold her condo, she capped the price at $650,000 and added stipulations to the deal designed to preserve the character of the neighborhood. Steph Curry Wins a $3.2M Mansion in Walnut Creek

Tonight, the Golden State Warriors' Steph Curry will try to land the team a place in the record books for the most consecutive wins to start a season, but he's made a personal score already by buying a mansion in the East Bay. The Los Angeles Times is reporting the point guard has paid $3.2 million for a Walnut Creek manse. You would expect a glam house for a star athlete, and this one fits the bill.
