Dear Friends and Neighbors, I wanted to pass along some information about upcoming events that I will be hosting in the district, as well as an update on road closures related to the New York City Marathon this Sunday. On Thursday, November 5th, I will be hosting my Roundtable for Boomers & Seniors, focusing on Retirement Planning in the Modern Economy. On Monday, November 16th, I will be hosting a forum on the media, the war on women, and how to fight back. For more information on these events, see the descriptions below. Best, Liz Krueger State Senator Senator Krueger's Roundtable for Boomers & Seniors: This 5-part program provides an opportunity for neighbors to come together to explore life issues that are relevant across the age span. At each session you will hear from and engage with professionals who are knowledgeable on topics that are of concern to the growing population of older adults in New York City. This year we will be looking at "Financial & Economic Issues" from various viewpoints. Sessions will be held on: Retirement Planning in the Modern Economy, Workplace Realities, Government's Impact on Finances, Defending Assets, and New Solutions for Workers & Families. The program meets one Thursday morning per month in November, December, March, April, and May. Sessions are from 8:30am to 10:30am at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, 331 East 70th St. Session 1: Retirement Planning in the Modern Economy will meet on Thursday, November 5th. Forum on the Media, the War on Women, and How to Fight Back: Anti-woman sentiment in America keeps escalating, from Donal Trump's misogyny to Jeb Bush's claim that we spend too much on women's health care to Carly Fiorina's opposition to equal pay bills. We have been blocked from passing pro-woman laws like paid family leave while state-level abortion restrictions tighten and Congress sponsors witch hunts against Planned Parenthood. I will be hosting a forum called "Counterattack: The Media, The War on Women, and How to Fight Back," to learn more about these issues and strategize about how we can take action to win the war against women. Guests include Micky Blum, distinguished lecturer and Director of Baruch College Survey Research; Ariel Chesler, lawyer and author, Good Men Project; Katie Halper, comedian and writer, host of The Katie Halper Show on WBAI; and Tanya Melich, political analyst and author of The Republican War Against Women: An Insider's Report from Behind The Lines. Update on New York City Marathon Road Closures: This Sunday, November 1st, is the New York City Marathon. I wish the best of luck to all those who are participating, and anyone who turns out to cheer the runners on.  Below is a list of street closures in Manhattan. Also, several buses will be rerouted, including the M31 between 88th and 92nd Streets, and the M15/M15-SBS between 53rd and 128th Streets. You can find the full list of bus route changes at http://travel.mtanyct.info/serviceadvisory/routeStatusResult.aspx?tag=ALL&date=11/01/2 015&time=&method=getstatus4_bus. â–º These streets will be closed throughout the entire race day: • Central Park East Drive and 84th Street. • Central Park East Drive and 68th Street. • Central Park East Drive and 65th Street. • Central Park West Drive and 62nd Street. • Central Park West Drive and 67th Street. â–º Beginning at 8:45 a.m.: • First Avenue and 77th Street will be closed until 4:05 p.m. • First Avenue and 97th Street will be closed until 4:20 p.m. • First Avenue will be closed between 109th and 110th streets until 4:25 p.m. • First Avenue and 117th Street will be closed until 5:30 p.m. â–º Starting at 9 a.m.: • The Madison Avenue Bridge and West 138th Street will be closed until 5:05 p.m. • Fifth Avenue and 125th Street will be closed until 5:15 p.m. • Mount Morris Parkway and 122nd Street will be closed until 5:20 p.m. • 5th Avenue and 103rd Street will be closed until 5:35 p.m. • Central Park South, from Fifth Avenue to Columbus Circle, will be closed until 6:15 p.m. • The 96th Street Transverse Road will be closed until 7 p.m. • The 79th Street Transverse Road will be closed until 7 p.m.
