The NYPD has begun posting felony crime data on its website for all of the city's public housing complexes. Serious crime in and around public housing is up 30 percent over the last four years, according to the police.

Carlos Gomez, Chief of the NYPD's Housing Bureau, said most of the incidents occur between people who know each another.
"We see a significant increase in domestic violence related crimes," he said during a City Council Hearing on Monday to examine crime reduction strategies in public housing developments. "These are crimes that, for the most part, occur behind closed doors."

Gomez said rape, robbery and assault account for 65 percent of the uptick in felony crimes in public housing.
