Here are some of the events our colleagues are checking out around town this weekend.
SOTERIOS JOHNSON, WNYC Morning Edition host: Yes, Soterios is Greek and he usually checks out all things Greek. This weekend he plans to attend a screening of a documentary at the Quad Cinema called From Both Sides of the Aegean. The film documents the violent transfer of Greek and Muslim populations between Greece and Turkey in the years following World War I.
JENNIFER ROUSSEL, senior director of publicity: Jennifer is a new Harlem resident and is this Sunday you can find her at the first ever Sugar Hill Market where Harlem artists will sell their wares. "It's a really artistic community up there and this event will harness all of that energy," said Jennifer. She adds, "hopefully, I will find some home furnishings and have Harlem represented in the apartment."
ILYA MARRITZ, WNYC reporter: Ilya recommends a Brooklyn night out. He suggests starting at a small bluegrass and folk club called Jalopy in Red Hook. For a nightcap, Ilya recommends Red Hook's iconic Sunny's Bar. It's an old fisherman's bar on the waterfront that was damaged by Sandy and now it's back. "It's always crowded on a Friday night, but it's never unbearable and there's always just this warm, fun, friendly atmosphere and it really feels more like a small town than the big city," said Ilya.
