Marriott Midtown Hotel

People say this is a standard Mariott Hotel or a little better, (some say a little worse except for one sour apple )

Great location (many people stress this)

The solution in this place seems to be to demand to speak to the manager if there is anything wrong

I loved this hotel.  Upon checking it, we were not greeted at all.  The front desk staff was rude and and condescending, enough so that we contacted the general manager.  He immediately corrected any negative feelings we had towards this hotel.  He even sent us up strawberries and a bottle of wine.

We had a junior suite which the size of was perfect.  It had a separate living room in which you could shut the french doors and go to sleep even if someone else wants to stay away.  It has the split bathroom plan, just the shower and toilet in one room.  The beds were comfy too.

The view was nothing special, I just saw other roofs.

It is about a 10-15 minute walk to times square and it is close to many train stations.  We never had to take a cab to get anywhere.

The concierge lounge was well stocked and staff were friendly.

Not my favorite Marriott location and unlikely I will be back.   Stood at desk that was labeled for the users of the Marriott iPhone app to pick up their key.  Stood for about 8 minutes while employee's went on about ignoring me.  Pretty bad experience actually....

then got to room and internet portal would not let me get access because name and room number did not match their "records"...so a full two hours after checking in was still totally unproductive.  VERY ANNOYING.  If on business travel, consider avoiding.

Generally speaking, the hotel is a pretty standard Marriott.  The staff fall all over themselves to make you feel good about your decision to stay with them, but you're left with that feeling that as soon as you walk away from the desk, they're going to point and laugh at you with their colleagues.  Still, I don't really care about all that, and so I won't hold it against them.

My principal beef is with my room -- it was extraordinarily and unreasonably noisy, and not in the way that New York City hotel rooms are often fraught with traffic noise.  My room -- 717 -- was cozily nestled between the two banks of elevators (the low-floor elevators on one side; the high-floor express elevators on the other), which meant that *all* night, I had the lovely sounds of what seemed, at first, to be a freight train barreling through the sides of the hotel.  I certainly understand that there will be *some* noise, but this was unreasonable and inexcusable.  I feel as though I should have at least been given a heads up at check in.  Instead, they told me I had been put in a "superior" room.  I'm not sure by whose standards that determination was made, but it's a fair bet that whomever did so conclude was likely deaf.

I should note, in fairness, that the room was huge by New York standards.  That said, I've never really understood why people obsess over room size -- what are you doing in there that you need all that space for?

At any rate, the hotel itself seemed fine, relatively convenient, but given the noise troubles, the next time I'm in the city, I'll plan to stay at one of the dozens of other similarly situated hotels that no doubt offer virtually the same type of room...I'll just be sure to ask how close I am to the elevator shafts.

I can't believe I am staying at a Marriott.  this place should be torn down.  I am Marriott platinum and my room is dark and dreary.  loud motel 6 like air conditioner.  rude as hell bell staff.  concierege lounge with horrible food. toilet that requires two flushes.  shower that drains slow. and you will wait forever for the slow elevators.

Best hotel window coverings I have ever had!!! I say this cause usually when we travel it is hard to sleep in cause the sun creeps right into the window!!! These windows had double shades - black out first and then the regular ones.  It was easy to stay in the cozy comfortable bed with the sunlight blocked out.

Really liked the hotel.  Overall service was awesome.  Enjoyed the bar for an after dinner drink one evening.  Room was nice and clean.  Bed was bug free!!! super clean restrooms.  They did a very nice job keeping up room.

Location was amazing.  A quick breezy walk to subway stations, plenty of eateries along the way.  Friendly staff.

Only 1 thing wrong, free wi-fi available only in lobby area and it was not allowing me to download any movies or any downloads at all.   Cost per day was $16.95 which I believe it is a bit expensive.....

But if we were to grab this hotel again (see this was purchased via Priceline - which you place a bid but not aware of hotel until you win) it would be awesome.  It is truly a 4 star site.

Doorman were amazing!!!  and check in was not available to 4:00PM (no change of getting hotel room a bit earlier) they did provide thou luggage check in (both upon arrival and upon check out) this service was great - cause our flight arrived really early in the am (room not ready) and we just checked bags and took off to city.  Same on way out - we did not have to leave to airport till 7:30pm - check out of hotel is at 12:00noon - so we checked in our bags and off we went to enjoy last day of our trip.

    Would stay here again anytime!!!

My master of hotel finding girlfriend chose this location for our most recent trip to NYC.  Rooms were very clean.  Conciegere's lounge was really nice, especially for my first experience in one.  Staff was friendly and even sent up a nice gift as it was girls birthday.

Good location near all the good stuff.  Very comfy beds.  Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for one night when I went to see Kinky Boots on Broadway (Great, FYI).  I felt the location of the Hotel is great if seeing a show on Broadway.  Taxi was easy to obtain outside.  Clean room and nice staff.  Check out was easy.  Bed was uber comfortable and bathroom was fairly large for a NYC hotel.  One gripe is the alarm clock went off at 5am or so and my eyes, ears and brain could not function at that time to shut it off.  I almost bought the damn thing because I almost ripped it out the damn wall.  All in all I would stay here again.

The room itself was very small in a European kind of way. Small but nice, with a nice TV and refrigerator. Very friendly nice service. When we first discovered that our room was directly across from the elevator, we were a bit worried that it would be very noisy. But it turned out that we didn't even hear a peep - from inside the room you never would have know how close we were. The bed was very comfortable. Couldn't quite figure out the air system. It would at times get a bit chilly, but the bed was cozy and warm so it was just a minor irritation.

Overall it was a very nice stay. Great location, close to the subway and walking distance to many sites.

The Marriott East side was a very nice hotel for New York.  The rooms were much larger than I expected and the location was excellent.  I had reserved three rooms, and when I arrived they only showed one room in their database.  The clerk was very helpful, but couldn't figure out the mixup, and the Manager came over, called Priceline for me, and got it straightened out in a timely manner.  I thought the service and the valet were very good.  The only thing that was a bit strange is that there was no place to sit in the lobby, and when I was waiting for my group to meet me downstairs, I sort of didn't know what to do with myself.  Overall, a very nice stay.

Good prices. Good location. Good service.

Let's drop some science, shall we? This isn't the Waldorf Astoria and you aren't King Jaffe Joffer either. It boggles my mind how people shell out thousands of dollars on hotels when all they are used for as pit-stops throughout the day, you know like dropping the deuce after a big breakfast or dropping off some shopping bags. But really, the hotels are a place for you to rest your head at night--that's it.

If you're in NYC you should be anywhere but inside a hotel. So my point is, there is no need to refinance the home just to stay a few nights at a luxury hotel when there are perfectly fine 2nd tier hotels such as this.

The location is great, walkable and the hotel has really improved its appearance. Their lobby and new bar area is actually better than the W's. The staff is super friendly and again, their prices are really good compared to surrounding hotels.

You're a stones throw away from the Comfort Diner for breakfast and just a few streets over from Rockerfeller Center or 5th. Plus you'll never have a problem catching a cab here. Just a really great hotel option in midtown.

    Very Conveniently located!
close to food, tourist attractions & must see sights in NY, close to subway lines. Lots of choice of places to eat within just a few blocks. Staff was very friendly and happy to answer any questions we had about the city. A cab ride from JFK was about 30 min, with light traffic, and about $65
Enjoyed the stay here. Would definitely go back

I really enjoyed this Marriott. A few notable things:

-very close to Grand Central (about a 5 minute walk)

-About a 15-20 minute walk to Times Square

-one block from the 51st street subway stop

-The concierge lounge is large and very busy compared to other Marriotts I've been to. It runs like a well oiled machine though- food is replaced pretty quick.

-I never had a problem getting a cab out front right away in the mornings.

-The rooms are on the smaller side but that's what I expected considering it is NY. They are by no means uncomfortable though!

-All rooms have a mini-fridge equipped.

-There is a workout room on the top floor. You only have to take 2-3 different elevators to get there, but it is a very nice workout facility. The view is pretty cool.

-There were often snacks in the early evening (around dinner time) in the lobby. They were samples from the restaurant attached (which I did not have the opportunity to eat at, although the little snacks were great!)

Scored the Marriott East Side on Priceline!

Convenience location two blocks from the 4-5-6 subway lines and four blocks from the E-M lines.  Also close proximity to Grand Central and Rockefeller Center.

The rooms are a tad tight, but hey it's Manhattan.  The lobby is a bit sparse, there are only two lounge chairs in the lobby, so definitely know loungin' around in that space.

I was hotel hopping on my 10-day NYC excursion (also stayed @ The Standard at the Highline, Double Tree Metropolitan at Lexington/51st, and Sheraton Towers near Times Square) and the Marriott had the most amazing fitness center out of the bunch...at least in terms of view: the fitness center is on the 35th floor with awesome views of the city...you've got to check it out!

Great location for the NYC sightseer as its right in the heart of midtown.
Friendly service staff that helped us find our way when we asked for directions. And they were really flexible about early check-in when our train arrived before the normal check-in window.

We had a room with only the view of a brick wall, which was okay because it was super quiet. You would never have known you were in NYC.
The rooms are small, but that is to be expected. They were very clean, well kept/maintained and comfortable. The beds were super comfy!!!  We did have a slow drain in the shower, but since we were only there for e night, it wasn't a huge deal.

Our room was pre-paid and we were charged a second time by mistake. I found this frustrating since at check-out the front desk staff person specifically acknowledged that we were pre-paid. Howeve, the reversal of the charges was remedied quickly, so no harm.

I would stay here again when visiting the city. Easy access to Grand Central Station and to the subway to get around.

I stay here most times that I am in NYC and it is a pretty great hotel.  The location is right next to a lot of other Eastside hotels.  Literally the Hyatt and W are on either side, Intercontinental across the street, and Waldorf is cattycorner.  There are probably more those are just the ones I remember.  It makes it really convenient if you are traveling with people who have points at a different hotel line!

The people have always been friendly - when they booked me in a double bed room and I asked for the king room, they made the change for me.  They gave me some free bottled water when I was waiting for my car to get there at 4am lol, and they're always willing to direct me to the closest late night pizza place!

I'm not gong to say it's the best hotel ever cause the internet is insanely expensive ($17/day) and there isn't necessarily anything overly special about the place, but it is a very fine hotel that does a great job at doing what they are supposed to do.

Certainly met my expectation with a few things to point:

    1. Typical Marriott in NYC.
    2. We got a really deal through Priceline
    3. Great location! Close to Grand Central and subway station
    4. No bedbugs according to me and bedbug tracker website
    5. Very speedy check-in and check-out process
