Blink Health Club

Ha! Blink looks so nocturnal because it was last shot I got this evening (Saturday, October 12) and the photo just came out that way

Gets very good reviews with one real sour apple..people note since it is inexpensive relatively it is more for people who are serious about working out than looking for spa experience

$20 membership with a free guest any time?  Sounds pretty good with me.  They have the same equipment as any other gym and they are all new.

cons - Not many locations, no towel service, no classes.

My roommate has the membership where you can bring a guest each time for free for only $20/month! Can't get cheaper than that in the city. The gym is spacious with a lot of cardio machines, weights machines, weights, and plenty of mirrors to check yourself out. I decided to go with him to the gym for the first time this past Monday. Boyyyyyy am I glad I did.

The demographics are young professionals mid 20's-30's, which makes sense as this gym is located in Murray Hill. The people I saw were very pleasant to the eyes - majority of them had fit, toned bodies. Hubba hubba ;) They're also super friendly! Two fellow gymmers were kind enough to help me adjust the seats to a couple weight machines when they saw me struggling. I'm not a gym-er, but I am really considering signing up for Blink. The muscles I see at this gym will be a good motivation to get fit. Once I sign up, first thing I have to do is ditch my raggedy tshirts and old high school gym shorts for some top notch lululemon gym attire. I'm starting to understand why some people care about how they look at the gym...

Con - 3 flights of stairs to get to the gym (workout before the workout), no paper towels in the women's locker room (I don't have time to use a dryer) and their music was too loud (let me watch my trashy reality shows in peace).

This place is amazing: clean, cheap, friendly, and never too crowded (in the mornings at least). Definitely recommend!

Went here once out of curiosity. Very clean and a good range of exercise equipment. A little too much space devoted to cardio but still one of the better gyms in the city.

Overcrowded, no towel service, hidden fees, garbage customer service for only $20!

A $20 gym membership seems too good to be true! Well, it is. For starters they claim its 20 dollars a month when you are signing up but read the fine print, there is an additional $39 fee in the beginning of September. $39 isn't really that big of a deal but when you consider the fact that its about twice the monthly rate and can only be found in the fine print, its definitely not well advertised.

This gym is 20 dollars a month for a reason, they don't have a towel wash system so everyone has to bring their own towels and the locker room's are way to small for this overcrowded gym. Anyone who works a 9-5 job has no chance of getting in the gym at a time when it won't be incredibly packed. Count on a line of at least 2 people waiting before you for any weight lifting equipment.

Oh, and don't worry, if you want to stop your membership there is another $60 fee unless you have been a member for more than a year..When I was signing up I asked for the monthly rate but the person who helped me sign up switched me to the yearly anyhow.

This gym is awful, you are better off running outside with no gym rather than wasting your time in lines there.

Convenient location - short walk to Grand Central and the 4, 5, 6, 7 trains.

Clean machines and friendly staff, like at all Blink locations I've been to.

The layout is pretty cool.  There's a stretching area kind of hidden in a corner.  I do my squats in front of the mirror there, instead of near the weights with all the lunks looking at me -- not that there are a lot of lunks here!

It's the standard young (20-40) Manhattan crowd, not a lot of fatties.

The locker room is small, but there are always open showers.  Also, they've started offering towel rental for $3.

The major difference between this location and other Blink locations to which I've been is that it's in a basement 2 flights of stairs down, rather than 2 stories up.  (No workout before your workout!)  Though, if you're a person who likes a view, a lack of windows might be a bummer...

This is a good gym if you're self motivated, flexible with your training times, and just looking for the essentials. For $20 I can visit any location, which isn't that many but they have been expanding pretty rapidly in the city. For me, it works because I work out in the early morning and avoid the after work rush. I don't need a trainer, but they do provide them, and I'm not interrested in taking any classes. It has all the basics needed for a good workout and you can't beat the price in this city.

    Can't beat the price!

Pros: $20/mo, very clean/new, has a power cage (many NYC gyms don't)
Cons: has only one power cage, no dedicated bench press setups (so the power cage gets a lot of usage), no towel service

My workouts basically revolve around the power cage, so clearly it was a big consideration.  If you're here to run (treadmill/elliptical) or do anything with dumbbells or machines, you should be fine.

I have been a member of many gyms, but this beats every one.  The thing that makes it so great is the price, without it being packed/dirty.  I noticed it has started getting more crowded since it opened but i cant complain.  One other thing is that there is no wifi and no cell phone service (for Verizon at least).  I like to listen to pandora when i work out so its impossible to access it.  All the negatives don't matter though.... @ 20$ a month this is a great deal!!!!

I go to the Murray Hill Blink since it's across my office and sometimes the Harlem Blink since it's near my apartment. Love that the gyms are clean and the equipment is new, but they definitely need to get more bars!

Great deal, but only if you can use the gym without using the locker room.  Three out of four times that I have been to this gym they have effectively shut down the women's locker room, telling me that I could not change or shower after exercising because of sewage or other plumbing emergency.   One of the times they pretty much shut down the locker room while I was changing, inviting a crew of plumbers into the room while my pants were off.  The woman told me I could finish changing in a shower stall (but could not use a shower)  The attitude of staff members in communicating this message was really unpleasant.  They offered no sympathy for the situation this put us in.

    Update:
I'm going to cancel membership because I moved apartment and I want another gym closer to where I live.
I'm upping my rating from 4 to 5 stars.
Staff are very friendly, membership is super cheap and the gym is big and new.
They also have a towel service now, which I referenced below.

    Original review:
I joined last week and went twice so far.

Overall, the gym is great value for money. New equipment, lots of equipment, convenient location (for me at least, as a Grand Central commuter), friendly staff and of course, an amazing price.

It would be nice if they had a towel service, even if you pay a little bit more for it. So it is a little annoying bringing two towels in my bag when I want to take a shower there.

While this has not impacted me so far, I worry about how busy this gym will get as word spreads. My theory is that membership will rise but attendance will peak in the coming weeks as the less-then-motivated New Year's members stay at home.

I was an NYSC member for a year until November. While NYSC has towels and some other benefits that Blink does not have, the value for money is no comparison

Great gym for such a low cost!
Blink is owned by Equinox so it's backed by a reputable brand.
The facilities is underground so there aren't any windows and cell service is a spotty but I guess great that there's no outside distraction?
It's cardio heaven down there, I've gone after work at what should be peak hours and there were still plenty of treadmills to choose from.
No classes offered which is fine with me, so if you're really into classes, this isn't the place for you.  Also limited on weights, but like I said, no shortage on cardio machines.
Locker rooms are clean, I've never seen more than one person in the shower, they don't provide towels which is another negative, but if you're only paying $20 a month, who cares...most NY gym towels are crappy/stained/worn/rough anyways.

Overall, great value for the price.
