Grimaldi Pizza

Before Grimaldi, there had been another Italian place here for years that had obviously been extremely popular. Why they closed suddenly, I have no idea.

I noticed Grimaldi has not completely redone the signage, just put their name in where the old name used to be.

Well, let's see what people say--Actually, what I would call excellent reviews overall( for the pizza istelf!), but note that they still take CASH ONLY it appears ( I would call and make sure that is still true)

Apparently Grimaldi is a chain that started in Brooklyn

Delicious wood-fired pizza at a decent price. Please note! NO SLICES! CASH ONLY! Hence, my minus 1-star. The first time I wanted to try this place, I wasn't too hungry, only wanted a slice, and only had my atm card.

However, the 2nd time I was in the area, I had the pleasure of being prepared with an empty tummy and just enough cash! Food, service and ambiance was perfect. They had a live band playing big band tunes.

I ordered a small pizza (big enough for two) with pepperoni, sun-dried tomatoes, and olives. So fresh and tasty!

    I'm definitely returning. :)

We came here around 9pm and had the whole place to ourselves. We ordered a small pizza with basil and sausage toppings. It was baked perfectly and the crust was crispy but soft on the inside.

Still, I think they can make some general improvements to compete with the trillion $1 pizza places surrounding them. The interior could be a lot more vibrant and the staff can be more attentive. After we got our pizza, it took us forever to find even one person to bring us the check. They are cash only and despite marketing to us a few times, they are still in the process of being an alcoholic joint last time I checked.

I came here after watching a movie at the Kips Bay movie theater a few Saturday nights ago.   It's a large space, and had lots of people, but wasn't packed at all.  We ordered a mushrooms and pepperoni large pizza and it tasted like all the other Grimaldi's we've been to, that it was good pizza.  We tried the homemade cannoli, and it wasn't that great at all.  It tasted like it was sitting in the fridge for a number of days.

It looks like on Saturday nights, they have an elderly gentleman performing the classics such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, etc..  It was cute, but felt slightly uncomfortable when he tried to get the crowd into it (nobody really got into it).

I can't imagine there ever being a line for this location.

I only gave it 3 star, though the pizza is very DELISH , they do not cater to
Being a neighborhood place, no credit cards but more important no delivery.
Called sent my son to,pick it up but by the time he walked home it was Luke
Warm.  Could they survive in winter without delivery?

Grimaldi's opened in the neighborhood a few months ago, and they seem to desperately want to discourage patrons -- no liquor including beer or wine for what is now quite a while -- no delivery, cash only, not much on the decor.

All that said, I just had a REALLY delicious pizza.  Comparing this to Posto and Motorino, I would say -- Grimaldi's aces them both.  Waldy's is a totally different style and doesn't deliver this far east (2nd Ave) so is out of the running.

Really good bubbly crust, not too thick at all, excellent ingredients (I had fresh mushroom, onion and sausage), and a small pizza -- not terribly cheap with the add-ons -- but easily enough for two.

Love this pizza!  Crisp, thin, crust with a delicious sauce and the white pizza is garlic heaven.  We've eaten from here several times and we're never disappointed.  Bring your appetite & cash because they don't take credit cards.  If you get the calzone, even the small it's enough for 2-3 people.  I hope they do really well here and never go away.
    Liquor license pending.

I'm a huge fan of Grimaldi's in general, but had never been to this location. It was actually pretty awesome. We got a pepperoni pizza with sweet peppers. Everything came on time and was delicious. The wait staff was super nice and the place wasn't crowded at all! It's also extremely easy to get to from where I live. I will definitely be back!

The crust was great, thin and crisp. The sauce was fresh. It could have used some salt and a little more flavor.

My favorite pizza.  Ever since the Grimaldi's in Brooklyn moved from it's original location, I've come here and the Limelight location (20th and 6th Ave.) for pizza and they're both excellent.  Fresh, tasty crust, sweet sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes, and fresh basil make this pizza the best .  The staff is really friendly and always make you feel like you're at home.  Come to Grimaldi's and you will not be disappointed.

Tip:  get a large pie with fresh garlic, pepperoni and sausage.  Thank me later.

I've been here (various Grimaldi's locations) dozens of times and will be back as often as possible.  Great place for groups, families, etc.

Didn't get a chance to eat in , because they close at 9:30. We got there around 9:20, so they stopped seating patrons. However, they asked if we wanted a pie to go. Seeing as my friend and I were starved students emerging from the fiery abyss of hell ( a.k.a our last undergraduate final EVER), we immediately said yes. We got the pie pretty quickly ( in about ten minutes)- not a moment too late!

The food quality is almost on par with that of DUMBO's location and the Flat Iron location. It is definitely better than the Franklin Square location food. Our pie ( sausage and pepperoni) was slightly oily and soggy ( maybe because we had to wait about 15 minutes to eat the pie), but the crust was buttery and light as usual.

The most annoying thing about take out is, of course, the lack of cardboard pizza boxes. It's not extremely difficult to carry the pizza in the paper sleeve, but one small misstep and BOOM, there goes your pizza.

-There is two dining areas. An upper and lower level.
-Overall clean but it did just open.
    -Currently nonfunctional bar.

    Service: 3.5/5
-Large pizza was made in ten minutes

    Food: 2/5
-Large regular pizza with two toppings came to $20.50 and quoted ten minutes.
-Eating a slice straight from the oven is the best idea. The crust is crisp and pizza is piping hot but the dough isnt thick enough to hold the heavy and soggy center.
-Wait five minutes and the whole pie is barely palatable (requires a toaster oven to bring the crisp and hot pizza back to life)
-The bottom of the pie was burnt and left a unsettling taste.

Overall the pizza is overhyped, again.

I am SO happy that there's a Grimaldi's nearby.  If you're a tourist, you've probably heard that you MUST VISIT the Grimaldi's in Brooklyn....well, now you don't have to go so far AND you don't have to wait in line for 30+ minutes to try their delicious pizza!

We came here on a Saturday evening at 6:30pm and we were seated right away...This place is definitely filled with more "family" type customers but they are planning to have beer/alcohol served soon!

Ordered the regular Large add Italian sausage with mushroom.  Huge pizza and total cost was $22!  SO AFFORDABLE.  I love the thin crust and the mozzarella and sauce is oozing to perfection.  I usually only eat two slices but I find myself eating 3.... sometimes FOUR slices which leaves me in the food coma stupor after wards but SO WORTH IT.

This is a new location so they're still working out their quirks IE table seating to accommodate everyone comfortably, they are still waiting on their liquor license, they are adjusting to their clientele of little kids/families.

BONUS: They have live piano and singing entertainment Saturday evenings!
