Corbet and Conley

I am afraid this is a rather unflattering photo of this place on East 23rd Street, it makes it look pretty grim being in the shadows and all..

Let me see if there are reviews for it--Yes, and they are not bad at all...(there are other Corbet and Conley branches, this one seems to specialize in catering)

Though this is a place I frequent often for coffee, I'll keep this as unbiased as possible.

Atmosphere: 2/5 - It feels crowded and has maybe 8 seats inside. Almost everything is awkwardly placed and an extremely poorly placed pillar in the middle of the store really ruins any semblance of space. Outside there is quite a bit of seating but on a hot summer day, forget it. They often don't turn on the AC the inside either. I like that they play a little top 40 on the inside though.

Service: 3.5/5 - I looove the ladies that work there. They're very nice except when they're having a bad day. Yikes.

Food: 3.5/5 - Not bad, not mind blowing. Portions are generous but expensive. They have great ingredients for their salads and they make a decent burrito as well for a bit less than chipotle. The coffee is decent and they offer a super sized one for $3. Perfect for the sleepy student.

I've tried their regular and iced coffee a few times, and 30% of the time it tastes fine, but other times it tastes either burnt or inexplicably like bacon grease, which is just weird. They make a decent egg&cheese on a croissant in the morning, but the salad bar is largely forgettable. Very pleasant staff, to be sure. All in all perhaps they are one step up from 7-11, but just perhaps? Maybe 1/2 step. Added note: They have a very unofficial Grade A in the window which looks contrived, but an online search shows that they do indeed have an A from the Health Dept.

Came by here for lunch once. An ok place, with ok food. Nothing to rave about, but the portions are decent and the prices are good. If you need fast filling food, run by here real quick!

Beautiful spring day outside today so I decided to take a walk around the work neighborhood to sniff out a place to eat "al-fresco".

I was not all that hungry but knew I needed to eat lunch before heading back to the office. I noticed this place across the street called Corbet & Conley Caterers that had outside seating and headed for it. As the corner it sits on is covered with building work scaffolding it actually made for a shady cool respite from the sun. The sign outside the entrance advertised some lunch specials. Half a sandwich and soup for only $6.50 looked like a perfect fit for my appetite and a cheap lunch option.

The place itself is a jack of all trades deli. Soups, made to order salads, sandwiches/panini's, breakfast items, bakery goods, wraps, burritos, smoothies, coffee, etc. The location itself is on the dingy side but seemed very busy for this area, especially with the hospital and university buildings close by, so I decided to give it a shot.

I had a half Panini - fresh turkey, roasted red peppers, and provolone along with a 12 oz Cajun chicken soup. Sat outside and relaxed a bit while eating this decent enough meal. The Panini was tasty enough and warmed up on the press. The soup was thick and spicy! Pretty good - but I am gonna pay for it later if you catch my drift.

Along with a bottle of water the whole damage was $8.71 with tax. Not bad, but nothing spectacular. Good enough for a quick and easy lunch, and a chance to sit outside.

Solid eat in/take out breakfast and lunch place.  The coffee is better than average.  There's a large soup selection.  There's a deal for soup and half  a sandwich. There's a big salad bar where you pick ingredients and the folks construct a salad for you.  The food is OK.  There is outdoors seating, which is fun when the weather is good.
