On a lighter note-- Juniors at Grand Central

I have heard people rave about Junior's cheesecake, but then even though people have been talking about the best cheesecake available in NYC, people like Dr. Memet Oz are haranguing them on television that foods like cheesecake are "poison"-- at least the kind of cheesecake we are likely to buy at the ordinary store ( I am not talking about Vegan, home made Gluten free cheesecake, if such as thing exists).

Well, back to Junior's--tons of reviews, just one of which said simply "Awful." Most of them are closer to raves or just approving generally

Is it the best cheesecake in all NYC?  Hum...  I struggle as I'm personally a big fan of Roxy's in Time Square, but that's partially due to it's rockin awesome location and the fact that I had my first date with my bride at Roxy's.

That said, it's definitely the best cheesecake in Grand Central Station and one of the best I've ever had.

    Sugarloaded!!

I walked by Juniors almost everyday on my way to work. I never stop by until today. Last night we grabbed a quick beer at The Beer Bar at the other end of Grand Central, and the bf mentioned that he would totally go for a slice of cheesecake. But when we were leaving, we took another route and totally forgot about it. So today, on my way home, I decided to surprise the bf for a slice of sugary cheesecake.

They have pre-sliced cheesecakes in containers ready for commuters to grab. I asked for a slice of devil's food and red velvet cheesecake (there is another red velvet layer cake!), paid $6.95/slice and off I go. The cake is good, very very sugary but the cheesecake is very light. I do enjoy the texture, but it is overly sugary that we both had a few bites of our slices, and we are saving it for another day.  Yup, that sweet!!

While this Grand Central outpost pales in comparison to my memories of growing up in the original Junior's in Brooklyn, this midtown location will still do as a stand-in -- especially since it's convenient and service is fast.

But what you get in Grand Central is a no-frills meal served on disposable plates with plastic forks and knives. The beef brisket sandwich on white bread was tender and tasty but that's all that came on the plate. A small side order of deliciously creamy cole slaw was extra. The Cobb salad was very generous, lots of stuff in it. We rounded out the meal with a seltzer, ice tea and big slice of coconut lemon layer cake.

Given the huge volume of human traffic going through this train stop, everything was super-fresh. I don't have the receipt and there are no prices listed on the website but I think the salad was about $14, the sandwich about $11. Not cheap but all very filling.

The only thing that really made me sad was the volume of trash generated by this Junior's. All those throwaway plates, cups and eating utensils. It just doesn't seem right.

Would give the food a three stars and cheese cake 5 stars. I had the carrot cake cheese cake and it was delicious. Wish I would have just gotten the original cheese cake because that was the best part.

Best cheesecake I have ever had.

Tried a slice of the raspberry swirl cheesecake, which came up to almost $8. I'm from Toronto and the cheesecake here always seems to be a little too tart - I'm not sure if this is just the way cheesecake in New York tastes like or if there was better cheesecakes out there. But this blew me out of the water. I devoured every last trace of it.

Strawberry cheesecake was delicious. The texture and creaminess of the cheesecake was just perfect. I don't think I have ever tasted something like that in Cali. Mmm I would go back for more if I went back to NY.

Conveniently located downstairs/ food court of the Grand Central. Plenty of seating in the dining area if you order the cheesecake to go!

I'm new to commuting into work, and have been in search of a good spot to grab breakfast in the terminal before heading to the office. As a resident of Manhattan for 16 years, Junior's, to me, is generally a tourist trap in Times Square, or a place P Diddy sends people to to get him cheesecake on a reality show.

I ordered egg and cheese on a roll, and for $7 bucks, (not cheap but totally worth it) I got two mini rolls, soft and delicious smothered with cheese and a large portion of eggs, it also came with a free coffee. Good stuff, will totally keep me going till lunch. Service was also impossibly quick! I will be back for more!

I can see why P Diddy would have people walk over the Brooklyn Bridge for this cheesecake.  Their cheesecake is dead on for richness and creaminess.  I actually own their cheesecake cookbook and I have yet to have a failed recipe.

I had to try this cheesecake the first time I went to NYC, and had been dreaming of it ever since. Went back again last March and am waiting until I get another taste of it in October.

Sure, it's in Grand Central Terminal. It's full of bums, tourists who talk too loud and the smell in there leaves much to be desired. But the food is good, the cheesecake is to die for, and it's a genuine NYC experience.
