Looking for an I Love NY shot glass, ash tray, or snow globe? Need to have that NYC Yellow Cab toy? Craving for that cheesy NYC magnet to stick on your fridge?
Then get your kitschy tourist ass over to American Icon!
We have all seen these places before throughout the Times Square area, and I am sure we have all taken a peek inside. Usually, they are tourist trap central, and are meant to sell all kinds of crappy NY memorabilia to gullible visitors walking around our great city. Yet, this has to be one of the nicest souvenir stores I have ever seen! I would not feel embarrassed at all to be seen shopping here, as they have some nifty stuff on hand. Funny thing is, it's not anywhere near the Times Square area.
Sure, there are the mainstay I Love NY items like glasses, t-shirts, coffee cups, baseballs and such, but American Icon has so much more in this bright and eclectic shop. They have a pretty cool selection of retro signs, Coca Cola and John Deer collectables, a ton of magnets, hats, toys, shirts, superhero stuff, movie memorabilia, wall clocks, sports things, and even a western wear and items room. There is just so much to see here on every shelf, wall, corner, nook and cranny. It is all very neat and organized. The staff are pretty helpful too. This is just an amazing little souvenir shop.
Of course, I had to buy a NYC subway map magnet for my fridge. I love cheesy, and I love America! Nothing is more American than mom, apple pie, and cheesy magnets! -

New York, NYI think this place is alright. It has a lot of selections for souvenirs, but its more expensive than most places I've checked out after. 1-2 dollar key chains off the street is a bargain when you just wanna pass it around to friends from home. Here is at least 5-8 dollars. I do have to admit that the quality of the stuff is better than what I found off the streets. Key chain is a key chain. They usually last forever and doesn't really break. I found that Walgreens at time square is cheaper than this place though. This place has a no return policy, but I am sure Walgreens won't mind if you return or exchange. -

I visited the Downtown location on 360 Broadway - good selection of unique toys, collectibles, and interesting items. It's a great place to look around and marvel at vintage chess sets, collectible movie film strips, and other iconic pieces of America. But for the prices, these are extremely expensive items, especially for the more modern toys (Big Bang bobble heads were selling for triple the price here compared to Amazon and double the price here compared to Barnes and Nobles.) -
