Union Hyatt--new place near trendy Union Square

Wow, they moved this place in fast because the last time I was in the neighborhood I did not see it at all (guess it might have been under construction or once again I am the typical focused NY'er who only sees what they need to see)

I'll bet this is a nice place but people complain about the prices...let's see...
Well, since it is so new there are not a lot of reviews but the trend is definitely favorable

This review is for our stay mid-June, 2013. Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Union Square. It is a smaller boutique type hotel, brand new,  tastefully decorated, very comfortable and quiet. Their two elevators ran smoothly, came quickly. Young staff was friendly and helpful. We arrived early in the morning after taking the red eye from the west coast. Had no problem checking in early since our room was available.

It was the perfect location for all the sights we wanted to see, really convenient and close to subway. Walked home from the Shake Shack at Madison Square Park one evening. Whole Foods and lots of coffee places within a few blocks. Right around the corner from the Strand book store.

Cons: they charge for wi-fi except in the lobby (I know, most hotels do, except for the cheaper ones, what's up with that?). The one computer they have for guest use is located in an awkward space located in a small hallway. Although it doesn't have a complimentary breakfast like the Hyatt Place, I'm glad we stayed here instead. We loved getting our NY bagels anyway!

    Would definitely return.

I lived in NYC for over 7 years and still travel frequently there on business.  I love this hotel.  It's on par with an Andaz in terms of boutique feel and amenities and the staff is super friendly.  Great location - next to several subway lines and who does not love Union Square?  I also stayed here with my toddler son and they were great with helping me with extra luggage, having a fridge in my room and gracious about cleaning up a mess we made.

As a diamond Hyatt member, I was recognized for my status and given breakfast vouchers for their new fantastic restaurant.  It is a bit pricey, but the value given for my loyalty was really great.

I had friends come visit me in the lobby with their baby and we were able to occupy it freely for over an hour while my son ran around.  It is a very chic place but family friendly which is huge.   There is also a really good playground in Union Square, again making it great for child travel.

I work in Times Square and while I've stayed in nice hotels there, this one was so easy.  No extra tourist traffic.  No double sets of elevators to navigate.  You walk in and go right up.

This review is for Singl (lobby bar/lounge).  The hotel itself looks good.

$62 for Macallan 18 yr is a ridiculous price, even for an upscale NYC hotel bar.  Also, the cheapest beer is $9 which is nutty.  Cocktails are more reasonably priced.

Ambiance is good though but you get similar at W or Standard.

Great hotel!!! Very clean. Nice design. Great staff. I really enjoyed my stay here.  I would definitely stay here again when I visit the city.  It's the perfect location away from the tourists but still close enough to get to the shops and Central Park within 10-15 minutes.

I was on my way to NYC for business meetings and I took a colleagues existing reservation at this hotel.  She ended up staying somewhere else so I scored a Tuesday night reservation for a hotel that had opened on Monday.

I got to the hotel and 3 door people held the door open for me.  I went to check in and I had my choice of no fewer than 7 Thomas Dean clad check-in agents in tweed blazers.  Needless to say, everyone was a bit eager to get me checked in and welcome me to the hotel.  They seemed disappointed that I didn't need anyone to help me get my tiny rollaboard bag upstairs.

The room was great - really well laid out and I had work to do so the in-room desk and wifi (albeit fee-based) came in handy.  They had taken great care around the details.  The minibar included some nice upgrades on standard minibar fare and there was pretty much full barware in my room.  The soaps were from a local place on 7th Ave and the towels and sheets were soft and brand spankin new.

    Unfulfilled wishes:
A bathtub (nothing like a long soak after a day of meetings)
Room service (wasn't up and running yet)

    Overall:
    Convenient location
    Friendly staff
Clean and well laid out rooms
Would definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity

Lovely spot.  Pics on yelp are exactly what the lobby looks like.  Nice lounge, pretty bar. The Bloody Mary was delicious, made with fresh dill and Spanish olives.
