Downtown is my favorite part of NYC, so I will admit my review may be a little biased. That said, I was pleasantly surprised when I unexpectedly discovered Stone Street happy hours last year.
Stone Street is one of the tiny cobblestone streets in the heart of NY's financial district, and home to several bars and restaurants. In the summer, the street is closed to vehicle traffic and instead is filled with tables and chairs. It is the most relaxing, laid back happy hour you will find in NYC, you won't pay a fortune for drinks and there are a variety of menus to choose from.
A friend and I meet here on Thursdays as often as the weather is nice (not raining). It is our summer spot. We are partial to The Dubliner for a few reasons-- reasonable prices, better than decent food, and it is on the end of the street where there is almost a constant breeze. Even on really hot, humid days we are comfortable sitting outside.
Over the past 2 summers, we've tried burgers, quesadillas, sandwiches and a few other appetizers. The food is basically good pub food, the fries are steak fries (my favorite) and beer is always ice cold. But it isn't the food that makes Stone St so special, it is the entire atmosphere.
Our only complaint: service is really slow. Your first round and food will arrive quickly, but once your food arrives, the waitress will all but disappear - the busboys will be the ones to refill your drinks so be friendly to them while you're waiting for a table. Last week, we tipped the busboy directly since our waitress was nowhere to be found. But we've never left less than happy:D! And really, who rushes happy hour??
If you are in downtown NYC and in the mood for a mellow meal and people watching in an area filled with historic character, definitely check out The Dubliner on Stone Street!-

This place is right by my office and has ample amounts of outdoor seating, so every once in a while my coworkers and I will grab lunch here - or at least try to. There must be something wrong with the kitchen because the few times we've tried to eat here it has taken over an hour for the food to come out.
Being in the financial district - it's safe to assume your clientele have jobs and lunch breaks are not usually longer than an hour so... you'd think they would do better about being quick?
The food is decent when it comes, but it takes eons for that to happen. I might be back, after work - but definitely not for lunch again. -

I came here after a function at DelMonico's which left me hungry. The burger here is well-cooked and I loved the sweet potato fries. Nothing really spectacular but a good option in the area for a quick bite.Listed in: The Yelp 100 Challenge -

I've been here a few times - for late evening beers and for lunch. I think it's a pretty good pub, despite all the mixed reviews. I always order a pint of Guinness here (reliable, timely, tasty), and recently I had a delicious steak salad. Sat outside on a sunny day and the service was great, even though it was really busy. The food menu is extensive and probably has something for everyone. I suspect the experience at the Dubliner might vary based on when you go - the weekday lunch & happy hour crowd is very different from the late evening/weekend crowd. I live around the corner from here and I've been here a handful of times with friends or w/ coworkers and every time I go, I go home with 5+ mosquito bites!! We always sit outside, but I'm the only one that ever gets them!! I just don't understand...
Anyways... There's not much of a selection for happy hour. I ordered a margarita once, frozen, and didn't taste any alcohol.. it was more blended ice, with a ton of sugar, and lemon juice. I'm a super light weight like (1 beer will get me tipsy) so i was expecting this to make me tipsy... lets just say after I drank the whole drink, all I felt was a sugar high and the need to drink tons of water to off put the sugary-ness.
The food here is decent. I ordered onion rings and a sweet potato fries to share w/ some friends.. The onion rings were okay, the could've been a bit crispier, but the sweet potato fries were really good! I would go back to order the sweet potato fries. -
