Found a 99 cent store much closer to me than I knew about...

Thought this one had closed down.

Although now that I think of it, I can't remember the last time I was at a 99 cent store...a long, long time ago looking for a fly swatter I believe.

Statues of Liberty on Fifth Avenue

There are a bunch of these statues on a stretch of Fifth Avenue near the Empire State Building.

Felt one and it is made of metal. It must weigh a ton.

One shop takes its statue indoors for the night...must be heavy lifting. Hard to steal ( although anything is possible I suppose) but easy to deface...

Yankees Store

Official Yankees store on Fifth Avenue with all their overpriced merchandise...

Part of the Yankee Empire, which turns me off.

There is always traffic on this section of Park Avenue...here looking north towards Grand Central and Met Life ( used to be Pan Am) building...

Brisk and sunny today, it feels more like Fall than Spring.

Yet another empty plaza

This plaza is empty now, but it is next to some fast food places and in summer will be full at lunch time, and fountain will be turned on.

What lies beneath

They are always digging up Second Avenue, exposing the complex tangle of pipes and cables that run underneath Manhattan streets.

Fading away- Blimpie's

I think Blimpie was the first of the fast food sandwich places.

It has been overwhelmed by Subway I gather...very few Blimpie places left.

Guess recession is taking its toll and also public taste in rugs may be changing.

The New Church follows the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg, who was famous for a while and now has sort of faded away in religious history.

Sign outside church shows great thinkers it claims were influenced by Swedenborg, including Goethe.

Have heard good things about this chain (they have many outlets in London, apparently, and some in Chicago)--

healthy food and organic, too, it seems.

Laundry List

I don't know what prices are like where you live, but this gives you an idea of the cost of living around Midtown Manhattan.

Have a friend who lives in the South Bronx...he can't find any dry cleaning places in his neighborhood at all.
