    soon-to-be-parent and they had just what I needed. The service was so friendly & I never felt

    This is just a fun small shop with a lot of varied baseball items.
    Lots of customized baseballs, but also a lot of framed items, such as unique posters of Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, and other custom art pieces.

    There are smaller items, like cuff links made from the original wood seats of Yankee stadium or Fenway park,  and a small collection of clothing items, such as t-shirts and caps.  The owner was friendly to chat with, and it seems like a nice place to pick up a unique gift for your baseball fan.

    Very cute store!!  The owner was super nice and very knowledgeable.

    Baseball lovers should definitely stop by.  The store was filled with camo baseballs, it's a Boy and Girl baseballs, maps, teams, purple suede, Xmas and Hanukah baseball- pretty much any baseball you can think of.

    This is a cool store where they sell artistically designed baseballs. to give you an idea of what is offered:

    1. map of all baseball stadiums
    2. map of NYC
    3. map of chicago
    4. silver/gold/green colored baseballs
    5. it's a boy/it's a girl

    You get the idea. Makes a great gift for the baseball enthusiast. And if you are having a party, you could order a custom designed ball as long as you get 24 or them.

    I went to Bergino this weekend for the first time and loved it. I'm not a "baseball expert" by any stretch but I loved the space--open and airy and homey.  I felt I had stumbled on the oasis of bottomless possibility for gifts for all the men in my family who are so hard to shop for.  And I fell in love with a painting or two.

    Also, Jay and his wife Marci were there and they were so great -- warm and knowledgeable, a small-town shop in lower Manhattan.  I'm going back for some beautifully colored, plain suede baseballs to put in a row on my bookcase.

    Totally recommend -- as a great spot for inventive gifts and art, or just a respite -- a great place to drop by the next time you're at the Strand or otherwise nearby. . .

    Great place!  Full of one of a kind baseball stuff that you can't find anywhere.  Great art work and baseball related gifts.  I think I found Christmas gifts for all the males in my family here.

    A must-see destination -- I go there every time I'm in Manhattan.  Amazing assortment of merchandise.  Friendly atmosphere.  I even saw Chris Rock when I was there one time!  Based on some of the displays, I got some great ideas for personalized and specialty items for some clients' businesses.  My friend just had a baby and I sent him one of the "It's A Boy" baseballs, which they loved.  Also sent a recent graduate a "Mazel Tov" baseball.

    I cant believe I'd never seen this store before and I live in the neighborhood. Pretty much did all my xmas shopping here for my boyfriend. Such a great shop filled with unique vintagey baseball items. The owner of the store was so sweet as well. If you are a baseball fan than this is def your store.

Ornate Upper West Side Houses of Worship

I guess it makes sense that as you walk around the Upper West Side, with all its large and ornate apartment buildings, that you also see large and ornate houses of worship...

For instance, Jewish--

 Catholic...

 And Protestant
Both the Catholic and Jewish places have long ramps to make them wheelchair accessible..it looks to me like the Protestant Church doesn't need one.

 There is also a big Mormon Church further uptown but I failed to get a picture of it.

Delightful Art Installation at Times Square Subway Station ( Which People Just Rush By)

Was surprised to notice as I came back through tunnel leading from one section of Times Square subway station to another that a whole long wall has all these art installations ensconced in it...I guess about ten in all.

They are real works of Art and worth stopping to look at it--but alas, no one does, because this is part of the rush from one place to another in Manhattan.

Here is a sampling:

 I am glad to see the subway improved with artwork, it is just a shame that these are placed as I said in such a way that people cannot stop and smell the roses, as it were

Like the Apthorp, the Belnord is another huge Upper West Side Old Luxury Place

The Belnord Apartments share a lot of things in common with the big old Apthorp on the Upper East Side.

The Belnord is also very big ( it covers a whole city block with a beautiful interior courtyard) and has all these individually designed apartments in clusters throughout its huge structure.

Prices to live here are what you might imagine. You have to make an appointment with a sales person to see any of the apartments on sale.

The Belnord is an apartment building on West 86th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City.
It was designed in 1908 by the noted architectural firm of Hiss and Weekes. It is 13 stories tall and features Italian Renaissance style decorative elements. It features two massive, two story grand archways that provide entrance to an inner courtyard with landscaped gardens.[2]
The Belnord is one of a mere handful of full-block apartment buildings in New York. Like other full-block buildings, such as The Apthorp, the Belnord is built around a large, landscaped interior courtyard.[3] The Belnord's courtyard is among the largest in the city.[3]
It is a New York City Landmark and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.[1]
Notable residents have included the writer Isaac Bashevis Singer, actor Zero Mostel and jazz impresario Art D'Lugoff.
The building was acquired by Extell Development Company in 1994.

NY Daily News reports on Why City has Canceled Festival today because of drug deaths

I saw a clip on the TV news earlier of a leering Madonna saying to a crowd of celebrating young people " Has anyone here seen Molly?"  The crowd roared.

Molly is another form of the drug Ecstasy from which young people have been dropping dead lately, and NYC just cancelled its big Labor Day Weekend music festival because of this--

The electronic dance music festival, in its fifth year, was scheduled to conclude Sunday with headlining deejay sets by Armin Van Buuren, Sebastiona Ingrosso, Steve Aoki and Laidback Luke.
Syracuse grad Jeffrey Russ, 23, was rushed to Harlem Hospital on Saturday morning but couldn't be saved.

But over the first two days of the festival, two attendees died from apparent overdoses of MDMA, nicknamed Molly, an illegal drug typically combined with other chemicals in Ecstasy pills, officials said.

The day before, she posted a picture of her feet in giraffe slippers with the message, “Am I ready for @ElectricZooNY or what?”

At least four more festival attendees are being treated for apparent overdoses in intensive care units at local hospitals, officials said.
"The city recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed," NYPD officials and Mayor Bloomberg's office said in a joint statement.
"The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with city officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event."
Festival leaders also posted a statement on their website: "The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend. Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today."
The festival attracted over 100,000 people last year, organizers said. Tickets to Sunday's shows cost $179.

Google is reportedly developing its own autonomous vehicles, which could become part of a fleet of 'robo-taxis' that pick up passengers on-demand.

Google is in talks with major auto-components manufacturers, such as Continental AG and Magna International, to build new cars to Google’s specifications, according to a report on former WSJ journalist Jessica Lessin's blog.
People familiar with the matter said that Google has been studying how these vehicles could become part of robo-taxi systems that pick up passengers and work commuters on demand, reducing the need for people to own their own cars.
At first, the robo taxis would require humans sitting behind the wheel in case of emergencies, according to the report. Eventually, however, these cars could operate completely autonomously, and would probably be linked to a mobile application.
Google recently led an investment of $258 million in taxi-hailing app Uber, which allows customers to order high-end vehicles from their mobiles within minutes. Uber, which is now valued at $3.5 billion, has prompted the emergence of a string of competitiors, such as Lyft, Hailo and Sidecar.
Google’s current fleet of self-driving cars – which are Toyotas retrofitted with cameras, sensors, radars, and Google software – cost around $150,000 apiece to make. However, Google is keen to make autonomous vehicles as widely available as possible.
The company has reportedly been working to lower the cost by designing some hardware components on its own, but it does not have the facilities or know-how to manufacture its own cars, so will need to partner with a contract manufacturer to build a car to its specifications.
It would also need to team up with a car company that has dealer relationships, in order to make its autonomous vehicles widely available to consumers.
Google has been putting pressure on major car brands to embrace autonomous-navigation technology. Although major auto brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota have all developed prototype self-driving cars, most of them do not actually want to build a fully autonomous car, according to the report.
At an event earlier this summer, Dieter Zetsche, chief executive of Daimler AG, owner of Mercedes Benz, reportedly said that his company wants to automate the boring elements of driving, such as being stuck in traffic, but would “never automate the cool part of driving".
Google’s cars have so far only been involved in two accidents – one involved the car being rear-ended after stopping at a red light and the other occurred after a human driver took control of the vehicle.
