Six Page Street Murals May Be Inadvertently Destroyed

Plans to install new windows in the property at 1950 Page Street may inadvertently destroy six of San Francisco's tiled mosaic murals. Hoodline reported that the property owner, private arts school Fei Tian Academy, hopes to remove the artworks by December 31 due to concerns for students' safety. If the murals are not removed properly, they will crumble to pieces, according to Lower Haight Sharon Virtue, who installed the murals in 2007 and 2008 through funding from the San Francisco Arts Commission, according to Hoodline

Yahoo has held onto a 48.6-acre development site in Santa Clara for years despite the company's stalled growth, but now it is reportedly up for sale, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The site is near Levi's Stadium and has been part of Yahoo's real estate portfolio since 2006 when the company's revenues were still growing. It was September when news first came that the Church of 8 Wheels, a roller rink located in the old Sacred Heart Church building at Fell and Fillmore streets, may have to stop rolling to make way for a new development. Now, the Planning Department has responded to preliminary plans for the development with encouragement to build more units than the currently planned nine. Upping the density of the development would also mean triggering the requirement to include below-market-rate housing that begins with ten units.

THE NUMBERS

SF's Average Millennial Can Buy Only a 135 Square-Foot Home

millienial_housing_1_map.pngMillennials in San Francisco may be viewed as trendy techies who can afford the city's soaring real estate prices, but the truth is rather different, according to new research from personal finance company SmartAsset. The average millennial in San Francisco can afford a home of just 135 square feet—a size that we're pretty sure isn't even legal. The figures are based on calculation of millennials' median income and median net worth combined with the median home value in the city.

Smaller Office Space Proposed in Mission to Avoid Building Cap

Screen Shot 2015-12-28 at 4.12.49 PM.pngImage via Google Maps
San Francisco's Proposition M places a cap on the amount of new office space that can be built in the city in any given year. The cap hasn't been an issue in many years, but it is likely to come into effect in 2016. There's just one exception: new office buildings under 50,000 square feet have their own, separate allowance. The San Francisco Business Times reports that plans for a new office at 2525 16th Street have just been filed that barely squeak in under this smaller cap at 49,999 square feet.
There's lots of room left for smaller buildings
