2 PHILLY PD OFFICERS STRUCK BY FLYING BUMPER AT GARAGE FIRE - INJURED

Wednesday, December 31, 2014   From www.PhillyFireNews.com - Engine-70 arrived on scene with a a car fully involved inside a one and two story garage, placed two engines and two ladders in service. Command reported two police officers were injured after part cars bumper to flew about 100′ striking the officers. One sustained a broken leg, the other lacerations.

Wednesday, December 31, 2014   Howe Fire Dept (Grayson County) Brush 21 caught fire today while responding to a call. No firefighter injuries.
     

 

WOMAN CHARGED WITH STRIKING FIREFIGHTER IN VA 

Tuesday, December 30, 2014    Virginia State Police said Lebanon firefighter was hit by a vehicle while working a crash on Route 19 Business on Dec. 27.

According to VSP, the crash happened in the Town of Lebanon around 10:10 p.m. on Route 19 Business at the intersection of Route 654.

A 2001 Lincoln was reportedly traveling south on Route 19 Business when it came to the intersection, where two police officers and a member of the Lebanon Fire Department - Grady L. Smith, 41, of Lebanon, Va. – were working an existing traffic crash.

According to VSP, the driver of the Lincoln – Rebecca A. Scales, 54, of Lebanon, Va. – did not obey the police officer's hand signal and made a left turn onto Route 654, and hit Smith with her vehicle.

Smith was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Scales was not injured in the crash. She was charged with reckless driving.



     

 

2 FFs INJURED AT PA FATAL HOUSE FIRE 

Tuesday, December 30, 2014    A woman was killed this morning in a Duquesne house fire, and now her estranged husband is in custody, KDKA-TV reported.The fire broke out in the Friendship Street home of a woman identified by neighbors as Maureen Gecan-Karr, 56, about 2 a.m. on the first floor and spread to the rest of the house. Firefighters found her body on the second floor when they were able to get inside.

Ms. Gecan-Karr had filed a protection from abuse petition against James Karr on Dec. 19, saying that he threatened to burn her house down. A hearing on her petition hadn’t been held yet.

Allegheny County police took Mr. Karr, 46, into custody and questioned him this morning. It is not clear if any charges have been filed.

Two firefighters were injured battling the blaze. One injured his back and was taken to a hospital, and another suffered a minor leg injury and remained at the scene, according to KDKA.

FATAL EMS CRASH IN KENTUCKY 

Monday, December 29, 2014    There was a fatal EMS crash this afternoon in Kentucky. Two civilians have died and two medics are hurt after a crash involving an ambulance and a small vehicle on the Mountain Parkway this afternoon. The crash happened on the eastbound lanes of the Mountain Parkway near mile marker 8 in Clark County (near Winchester) around 1430 hours.
A small blue car was traveling westbound on Mountain Parkway when it crossed the center line for unknown reasons into the path of the ambulance that was traveling eastbound. The car turned right in front of the ambulance and was basically run over by the bigger vehicle. Two people in the blue car died immediately.

Two EMT's in the ambulance - which belongs to Allen's Ambulance Services in Booneville - were hurt. One was flown out of the scene to the University of Kentucky Hospital in critical condition and the other was driven to Clark Regional Hospital. KTIYP's.

     

 

3 FFs INJURED AT LONG ISLAND FIRE 

Sunday, December 28, 2014   At least three firefighters suffered minor injuries while responding to a house fire on Spruce Street in West Hempstead on Friday.
The fire started in the two-story home's unfinished basement and quickly spread to the rest of the home.
Fire officials say the homeowners were inside and saw smoke. They ran out of the house and called for help.The people living at the home were not hurt in the fire.
It took dozens of firefighters from nine departments to get the fire under control.
The residents of the home are now displaced.
There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
