Millessime

Very fancy brasserie and bar in what was once a welfare hotel, of all things-- of course, before that it had known much better days...well, the better days are back again.

At least for most people, some, of course, think this place is all hype

Millesime was fantastic and the perfect choice for any date night. The food was outstanding and the ambiance was perfect, straddling the line between an upscale restaurant and an old French hotel lobby. Me and my girlfriend both had the Hanger steak and frites, one of the cheaper items on the menu, and we were blown away by how delicious and flavorful it was. The ceviche appetizer was fantastic as well and completely unlike any other I've ever had.

Millesime is a little pricey, but no more than any other upscale NYC restaurant. It was well worth it and we will be adding this to our list of favorite date night destinations.

Came here twice, the first time was for Valentine's Day when they were doing a prix fixe and the second time a month later. I was skeptical about going back there the second time around since I didn't think the food quality wasn't going to be much different but I was pleasantly surprised. They do a really interesting take on the Caesar salad and must order the chocolate croissant pudding for dessert, without a doubt. Wine is really good, both the Saint-Emilion and medoc.

FYI: There are two entrances to the restaurant, which can be confusing. If you enter through the bar - go up the stairs and pass the tables to get to the hostess.

Came here with a few friends after reading that they're offering a seafood vol-au-vent (puff pastry with seafood filling) until Christmas eve.

Cute, but have to say the open eating area with is a bit awkward.

We started off with the east coast Moon shoal and Peter's Point oysters, which were quite good. Also had the hamachi tartare which was a bit weird with the peanut element. NYMag had awarded this the city's best caesar salad, but I wasn't a fan of, though my friend really liked this one. We were not impressed with the vol-au-vent..it came out lukewarm and the seafood was a bit overcooked. One friend opted for the striped bass. The skin was moderately crispy, but the portion was pretty small.

Also wasn't a fan of the wine the sommelier recommended..it was too sweet and a bit heavy.

The service was okay, though we were waiting quite a while for the mains.

My how far we've fallen. I went back and it was nothing like my first experience. The Caesar was soggy and over dressed, the service was poor and nothing was better than your average hotel food. Oh well. Nothing lasts forever.

Just rating the happy hour -

The oysters were delicious and fresh as well! The drinks were a lil pricey but pretty good as well. Def worth a visit after work.

Also it wasn't very packed, but it was a Tuesday night. So who knows.

Have to agree with the rest of the folks here, the happy hour with $1 oysters is fantastic, and I love the ambiance, just wouldn't come for a full meal given the prices. The live jazz band and singer they had the Friday night I visited was great! Gotta love those old timey tunes.

$1 oysters are Blue Points unless they run out and give you better ones ;) $10 cocktails, $5 beers and $8 wine M-F 5:30-8pm. Like a fellow yelper mentioned below, stick to the oysters, the Cherrystones are just ok at $2 each.

My new fav happy hour place!

They have a great oyster happy hour right now. $1 oysters and half off beers, wines. The oysters were great and came out quickly. The waitress was very personable and friendly. She didn't bother us, but knew when to come back for the second round of drinks and oysters.

I came here after reading the yelp reviews and a feature in NYMAG about the dollar oyster happy hour special.  It is not the kind of place I would normally visit, but I love oysters, and I especially love spending only a dollar on them.

Unfortunately, the oysters were pretty nasty.  They were not shucked properly--with sand, sediment, and some shell mixed inside, and they left my mouth all "fishy."

The mint julep I had was nice, but I would not return and instead will head out to Williamsburg and brave the line at Maison Premiere or head to this good spanish tapas place around the corner from Maison Premiere that also has them (sorry I am blanking on the name).

The ambiance of Millesime is nice--but it is definitely more upscale than the places I like to frequent.  it was a good try, but it did not come through for us.  That said, they did take 5 of the oysters off the menu considering we could not finish them, so at least the service was attentive.

Went here for a group diner last night and was pleasantly surprised. Very old fashioned, and very dead for a Friday night.

We ended up staying and had a great meal: several people in our group ordered steaks, and the cream spinach was awesome. Fries were good, and the bibb lettuce salad was a perfectly light starter.

If you go, get Randy as your server. Seriously one of the BEST in all of New York City!

You know when you're with a girl and she says "I love you" and you really don't want to say it back, so you say something like "I wove you"?

Well... I WOVE this place. Actually, I wove the $1 oyster happy hour special. I would've loved this place, in fact I was already in love, until I went online and saw the prices. I'm just not ready for that kind of commitment, you know?

It's not you, it's me. I'm just so poor, I can't afford a $30 entree. I mean, what would your parents think of me, Millesime? WHAT WOULD THEY THINK? I'm just not ready. Maybe one day, when I grow up. Until then, I'll be eating your oyster.

No really, the $1 oyster deal is the bomb! If any of you gents are looking for a fresh zinc fix, than I suggest you mosey on down to this fancy shindig. Now, when I say fresh, I'm not just throwing that adjective around; I really mean fresh.

I come here at least once a week and with dim lights and a friendly (not to forget attractive) staff, this would make for a hell of a dinner... for the folk that can afford it of course.

God, why can't I be rich?

Happy Hour Find (Oyster bar happy hour review only)

Decor - 4/5 Very lavish, Parisian feel, mezzanine overlooks the lounge aread where live music plays after hours (8pm likely)

Price - 2/5 (IMO, only the happy hour portion, as their dinner menu is $$$+)

Food - 4/5 Oysters were great, fresh and tasty. Clams, not so much, (average $2 a pop not really worth it)

Service - 5/5 very attentive, great.

    Tip #1 - Happy Hour 5:50 - 8 M-F $1 oysters and looks like 1/2 price Wine/Beer, a bargain compared to their dinner menu...

Tip #2: Its tricky to get to the Oyster Bar, entrance is on 29th, not on madison, just go up the stairs and straight back, bar is to your left.

Tip #3: Restrooms are located outside the restaurant/bar to the left, a must visit.

I will be back again.... great find, you should try...
